IF YOU CONTINUE IN YOUR FAITH / COLOSSIANS 1:23

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Colossians 1:23

If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

The Power of Perseverance: What It Means to Continue in Your Faith

When we read the opening chapter of Colossians, we are met with an breathtaking picture of Jesus Christ. Paul reminds us that we have been reconciled to God through Christ’s physical body through death, allowing us to stand before Him as holy, without blemish, and free from accusation (Colossians 1:22).

It is a beautiful, unconditional gift of grace. But immediately following this promise, Paul introduces a crucial condition in Colossians 1:23: “if you continue in your faith.”

Salvation is a gift, but a living relationship with Jesus requires an ongoing human response. Faith is not a one-time decision we make and then forget; it is a lifelong journey of active, daily endurance.

To experience the fullness of the gospel, Paul outlines three vital keys to continuing in our faith.

1. Actively Yielding Our Lives to Christ

Continuing in faith means actively yielding our lives to Christ every single day. It means waking up and surrendering our plans, our ambitions, and our desires to His authority. True faith shows up in our willingness to obey His Word, choosing His purposes over our own comfort.

2. Staying Established and Firm

The world around us is constantly shifting, offering new philosophies, cultural trends, and distractions. Paul charges us to be “established and firm” in the foundational message and teaching of Jesus. We find this original truth preserved perfectly in the Bible. To stay firm, we must root ourselves deeply in Scripture so that we aren’t easily swayed by false teachings or modern doubts.

3. Holding Fast to the Hope of the Gospel

Paul warns us to be “not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.” When life gets heavy or temptations whisper that our old way of living was easier, we must refuse to slide backward. Returning to a former life of sin only leads to hopelessness and spiritual destruction (Colossians 3:5-11). The gospel promises an anchor for our souls—a future glory that far outweighs any temporary trouble we face today.

A Closing Prayer for Endurance

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the incredible depth of Your love, and for reconciling us to Yourself through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that, because of Him, I can stand before You holy, blameless, and free from accusation.

Lord, I want to continue in my faith. On the days when my strength fades and the world pulls at my heart, grant me the grace to remain established and firm. Give me an unwavering spirit that refuses to be moved from the hope of the gospel.

Help me to yield my life entirely to You today—obeying Your Word, surrendering to Your authority, and trusting Your perfect purposes. Keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
