START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION
(KJV) Colossians 1:11-12
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Strengthened According to His Glorious Might
Have you ever tried to live out your faith entirely on your own strength? It doesn’t take long to realize that our human willpower has a very real, very frustrating limit. We try to be patient, we try to endure difficult seasons, and we try to overcome the natural tendency to go our own God-defying way—yet we still fall short.
The Apostle Paul understood this human struggle perfectly. In his letter to the Colossians, he reveals that living a life worthy of the Lord isn’t about trying harder in our own flesh. It is about tapping into a completely different power source.
The Source of True Power
In Colossians 1:11-12, Paul prays that we may be:
“…strengthened and invigorated with all power, according to His glorious might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the Light.”
Notice where the strength comes from: it is according to His glorious might, not our own. This infusion of power is meant to be an ongoing, daily experience. Through the dwelling presence of the Holy Spirit within us, God continuously pours His power into our lives. As Philippians 4:13 reminds us, it is only through Christ who strengthens us that we can truly overcome sin, the pressures of the world, and the spiritual battles we face.
Power for a Purpose
When we think of “glorious might,” we often think of dramatic miracles or moving mountains. But Paul points out a beautifully practical purpose for God’s power in our day-to-day lives:
- Endurance: The ability to find the strength to keep going when circumstances are heavy.
- Patience: The capacity to remain steadfast and calm when dealing with difficult people or unexpected delays.
- Joy: The supernatural choice to rejoice, knowing that our circumstances do not define our security.
We aren’t just surviving these trials; we are actively giving thanks to the Father. God’s power shifts our focus from what we are going through to what we have already received. He has already qualified us to share in the inheritance of His kingdom.
If you are feeling drained, overwhelmed, or spiritually exhausted today, remember that you don’t have to muster up the strength on your own. Step back, breathe, and ask the Holy Spirit to invigorate you with His glorious might.
A Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today acknowledging that our own strength is simply not enough to walk in a manner worthy of You. Forgive us for the times we try to fight our battles, manage our stress, and overcome temptation in our own power.
We ask right now that You would strengthen and invigorate us with all power according to Your glorious might. Fill us afresh with the Holy Spirit. Grant us supernatural endurance for the hard days, deep patience for the frustrating moments, and a persistent joy that circumstances cannot steal. Thank You for qualifying us to share in Your beautiful inheritance of light. We rest in Your power today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
