If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

The pressure to fit in is stronger than ever. We live in a culture that demands conformity, constantly pushing us to compromise our convictions to escape social awkwardness or outright rejection.

But in Mark 8:38, Jesus cuts straight through our desire for human approval with a sobering warning:

“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

The Reality of Our Culture

Jesus doesn’t sugarcoat the state of the world. He describes the society around us as an “adulterous and sinful generation.” This means that, at its core, the world system is unfaithful to God’s purposes and openly rebellious against His truth.

When we try to blend into a culture that rejects God, we inevitably find ourselves tempted to hide our faith. We stay silent when we should speak. We nod along with ideas we know contradict Scripture. We choose comfort over conviction because we are afraid of what people might think of us.

The True Cost of Social Approval

It is easy to care more about how our peers view us today than how God views us in eternity. But Jesus warns us that this trade-off is a spiritual trap.

If we choose the fleeting applause of a sinful world over loyalty to Christ, He will reject us when He returns in His Father’s glory. True discipleship requires courage. It demands that we anchor our identity so deeply in Christ that the opinions of this world lose their power over us. We cannot love the praise of people more than the praise of God.

Living Unashamed

To live unashamed of Jesus and His words means to stand firm in His truth, even when it is unpopular. It means letting our light shine in the darkness, confident that the approval of our Savior outweighs any earthly rejection. Let us choose today to live for the Audience of One, eagerly awaiting the day He returns in glory.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have stayed silent or compromised my faith out of fear of what others might think. Give me the courage to stand boldly for Your truth in a world that often rejects it. Help me to never be ashamed of the Gospel or the words of Jesus. Anchor my heart in Your approval alone, so that I may live fully for Your glory. When Christ returns, may He find me standing firm, faithful, and unashamed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Denying Self and Taking Up the Cross: The True Cost of Discipleship

In Mark 8:34, Jesus issues a profound and challenging call to anyone who desires to follow Him: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

This isn’t a call to a comfortable, casual faith. To deny self means to deliberately put aside our own selfish desires, ambitions, and comforts in order to serve Christ and His purposes, no matter the cost. In the Roman world, the cross wasn’t a piece of jewelry; it was a brutal instrument of execution. The cross of Christ is a symbol of suffering, death, shame, ridicule, and complete rejection.

When we make the choice to take up our cross, we are choosing to die to our old way of life and boldly identify with Jesus. Our identity becomes so interwoven with His that our reputation cannot be separated from our relationship with Him. Walking this path requires a deep commitment across four specific areas of spiritual struggle and suffering.

1. The Lifelong Battle Against Sin

Taking up the cross means engaging in a daily, lifelong war against our own fallen nature. We are called to willingly endure the internal struggle of crucifying our sinful desires—which means putting them to death, refusing to feed them, and becoming unresponsive to them. As we choose righteousness over personal gratification, we actively participate in the transforming power of the Gospel.

2. The Warfare Against Darkness and Deception

We are thrust into a spiritual war against Satan and demonic powers. To advance Christ’s kingdom, we must be willing to suffer hardship, spiritual opposition, and hostility. This battle also requires us to stand firm against false teachers who corrupt the true message of Christ, protecting the integrity of the Gospel even when it brings fierce resistance.

3. The Hatred and Ridicule of the World

Because of our devotion to Christ and His standards of truth, we will inevitably face opposition from secular culture. When we live out God’s truth with love and humility, our example exposes the evil and brokenness of worldly behaviors. The world often responds to this conviction with ridicule and rejection, testing where our ultimate allegiance lies.

4. Opposition from Religious and Ungodly Leaders

Just as Jesus suffered under the religious establishment of His day, true disciples may face persecution from religious people or ungodly leaders who value legalism, power, or tradition over the living truth of God. Standing for the authentic Gospel can make us targets for those who prefer religious outward appearances over genuine heart transformation.

A Closing Prayer for the Journey

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the profound grace that reached out and saved us. Lord Jesus, Your call to deny ourselves and take up our cross is heavy, and we recognize that we cannot walk this path in our own strength. We ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to help us put to death our selfish desires each day.

Give us the courage to boldly identify with You, even when it brings ridicule, rejection, or spiritual opposition. Help us to stand firm against sin, the deceptions of the enemy, and the pressures of this world. May our lives be so hidden in You that our reputation is entirely defined by our love for You. Guard our hearts with humility, fill our mouths with Your truth spoken in love, and sustain us through every trial. We commit our ways to You, trusting that the road of the cross leads to eternal life.

But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

The Comfort Trap: Why Jesus Said “Get Behind Me, Satan”

It is one of the most jarring, uncomfortable moments in all of Scripture. One minute, Peter is the star disciple, correctly declaring, “You are the Christ.” The next minute, Jesus looks him dead in the eye and delivers a crushing blow: “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man” (Mark 8:33).

How did Peter go from being the rock of the church to being called the ultimate adversary in a matter of moments?

The answer lies in a subtle, dangerous trap we all fall into: the pursuit of a crown without a cross.

The Danger of Good Intentions

When Jesus began to openly teach that He must suffer, be rejected, and die, Peter’s protective instincts kicked in. Matthew’s Gospel tells us that Peter took Jesus aside and essentially said, “God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”

Peter wasn’t trying to be evil. He loved Jesus. He wanted to protect his Friend, his Teacher, and his King. From a human point of view, his reaction was completely reasonable. Suffering and public execution had absolutely no place in Peter’s vision of a victorious Messiah.

But that is exactly why Jesus’ response was so fierce.

Jesus wasn’t saying Peter was literally the devil. Rather, He recognized the source of the influence behind Peter’s words. By trying to save Jesus from the cross, Peter was inadvertently presenting the exact same temptation Satan laid before Jesus in the wilderness: to claim His kingdom and glory without going through the pain of the crucifixion.

The Ultimate Shift: God’s Perspective vs. Man’s

Jesus exposed the core issue when He told Peter: “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men”.

Avoid suffering at all costs	Embrace sacrifice for the sake of love
Prioritize immediate comfort and safety	Prioritize eternal redemption and obedience
Define victory as temporal power and praise	Define victory as a cross and an empty tomb

When we play God instead of following Him, our “good intentions” can actually become a roadblock to His divine purpose. Without the suffering of the cross, there is no resurrection. Without the sacrifice, there is no eternal life for humanity.

Getting Behind Jesus

When Jesus says, “Get behind Me,” it carries a double meaning. It is a command to banish the satanic temptation to avoid God’s will. But it is also a call to standard discipleship. Jesus is reminding Peter of his proper place: “Stop trying to lead Me, Peter. Get back behind Me and follow.”

We face this same challenge every single day. Will we choose the path of comfort, or will we choose the path of the cross? When God’s plans disrupt our comfort, break our hearts, or don’t line up with how we think things should go, we have a choice. We can rebuke God’s plan, or we can submit to it.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean avoiding hardship. It means trusting that God’s ultimate design is far greater than our temporary comfort.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Forgive us for the times we value our own comfort over Your calling. Like Peter, we confess that we often want a life of victory without any sacrifice. When suffering comes or when Your plans don’t match our expectations, give us the grace to trust Your heart.

Help us to silence the voice of temptation that tells us to take the easy way out. Remove our human near-sightedness and give us Your eternal perspective. Teach us to step back, get behind You, and follow wherever You lead, knowing that the path of the cross always leads to resurrection life.

In Your holy name we pray, Amen.

When Silence Protects the Purpose: Understanding Mark 8:30

We live in a culture driven by the urge to broadcast everything. The moment something incredible happens, our immediate instinct is to share it on social media, text our friends, or shout it from the virtual rooftops. We measure the value of information by how quickly it goes viral.

That is why reading the Gospel of Mark can feel so jarring.

In Mark 8:29, Jesus asks His disciples the ultimate question: “But who do you say I am?” Peter, bold and insightful, delivers the correct answer: “You are the Messiah.” It is a breakthrough moment. But instead of telling them to launch a public relations campaign, Jesus does something completely unexpected in the very next verse:

“Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.” — Mark 8:30 (NIV)

Why would Jesus want to keep the greatest news in human history a secret? Scholars often call this the “Messianic Secret,” GotQuestions.org and exploring it reveals two profound truths about God’s timing and how we understand who He is.

1. Misunderstanding the Mission

In first-century Israel, the word “Messiah” carried heavy political and military expectations. The Jewish people were suffering under brutal Roman oppression. They were looking for a conquering king—a political revolutionary who would overthrow Rome, establish an earthly kingdom, and bring immediate physical relief Truth Applied.

If the disciples had gone out preaching that Jesus was the Messiah at that exact moment, it would have sparked a political uprising based on a complete misunderstanding of His mission. Jesus didn’t come to conquer Rome; He came to conquer sin and death. He didn’t come to sit on an earthly throne; He came to die on a Roman cross. By enforcing silence, Jesus protected the true purpose of His mission until the timing was right.

2. Letting Jesus Define Himself

Even the disciples didn’t fully grasp what they were saying yet. Right after Peter’s confession, Jesus begins explaining that He must suffer, be rejected, and be killed The Gospel Coalition. Peter immediately takes Jesus aside and rebukes Him! Peter wanted a Messiah of glory, not a Messiah of suffering.

We often do the exact same thing. We try to define Jesus based on our own desires, cultures, or political alignments. We want a Jesus who fixes our immediate problems, guarantees our comfort, and nods along with our preferences.

But Mark 8:30 reminds us that we must let Jesus define Himself Heartlight.org. True discipleship means dropping our preconceived notions of who we think He should be and accepting Him for who He actually is: the Savior who redeems us through sacrificial love.

Moving Forward in His Timing

Today, we are no longer under the command to keep silent. After the resurrection, the secret was fully unveiled, and we were given the Great Commission to tell the world.

However, the lesson of Mark 8:30 remains true for our daily lives. It challenges us to pause before we speak for Jesus, and make sure we are actually listening to Him. Are we sharing the real Jesus of the Gospels, or a version we created in our own image?

Let’s commit to knowing Him deeply, accepting His timeline, and allowing Him to shape our lives from the inside out.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for revealing the truth of who Your Son is. Forgive us for the times we try to mold Jesus into our own image or use Him to serve our own agendas. Help us to accept Him on His terms, embracing both His cross and His crown.

Give us the patience to trust Your perfect timing when your answers seem hidden or delayed. Open our hearts to understand Your true mission, and give us the courage to share the real, sacrificial love of Christ with a world that desperately needs it.

Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.

The Beauty of the Second Touch: Finding Grace in Gradual Healing

We live in a culture that worships the instant. We want instant downloads, instant meals, and instant answers to our prayers. When we open the Gospels, we often see Jesus operating at exactly that pace—a word spoken, a hem touched, and boom: immediate restoration.

But tucked away in the Gospel of Mark is a story that breaks the mold. It is a narrative that provides profound comfort to anyone who has ever felt like their healing, growth, or breakthrough is moving at a snail’s pace.

In Mark 8:25, we witness a unique moment in Christ’s ministry: “Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.”

This healing of the blind man in Bethsaida is the only recorded instance of a gradual, multi-staged cure by Jesus. It holds a powerful mirror up to our own spiritual journeys and teaches us three vital truths about the timing of God.

1. Blurred Vision Does Not Mean the Miracle Failed

When Jesus first laid hands on the blind man and asked what he saw, the man responded, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” (Mark 8:24).

He wasn’t totally blind anymore, but his vision wasn’t perfect either. It was blurry, out of focus, and confusing.

It is easy to look at the “blurry” seasons of our lives—when an addiction is managed but not fully broken, when a broken heart is mending but still aches, or when our future direction looks foggy—and assume Jesus has abandoned us. But partial progress is still progress. The blurry middle is not a sign of failure; it is simply a sign that the process is still underway.

2. Radical Honesty Before God

What if the blind man had lied? What if, out of fear or a desire to make Jesus look good to the onlookers, he had said, “Yes, Lord! I see perfectly!”? He would have walked away with a lifetime of blurry vision, missing out on the fullness of what Christ intended for him.

Instead, the man was radically honest about his condition. He didn’t exaggerate what Christ had done to make himself seem more spiritually advanced or important.

We can bring our raw truth to Jesus. We don’t have to pretend our faith is unshakable or that our emotional wounds are fully healed when they aren’t. True clarity begins with continued surrender and total honesty in His presence.

3. Jesus Finishes What He Starts

Jesus didn’t get frustrated with the man’s blurry report. He didn’t run out of power. Instead, He patiently extended His hands a second time.

If your life feels blurry right now—emotionally, spiritually, or directionally—take heart. The same hands that touched you the first time are willing to touch you again. He is committed to your restoration, and He faithfully carries His good work in you across the finish line (Philippians 1:6). Don’t walk away from the Master Builder while the work is still in progress.

A Closing Prayer for a Second Touch

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are a patient and intentional Healer. Forgive us for the times we demand instant results and lose hope when Your work takes time. Today, we bring our “blurry” areas to You—the relationships that are still strained, the habits we are still fighting, and the futures that still look like trees walking in the fog.

Give us the courage to be completely honest about our needs, never pretending to be further along just to impress others. We thank You for the progress we’ve already experienced, and we trust that You are not finished with us yet. Put Your hands upon our lives once more, clear away the fog, and restore our sight so that we may see Your truth and Your love clearly.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Guarding Your Heart: Understanding the Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod

In Mark 8:15, Jesus delivers a sharp, unexpected warning to His disciples: “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

On the surface, the disciples were confused—they thought He was talking about the fact that they forgot to pack lunch. But Jesus was speaking of a much deeper, spiritual danger. To understand His warning, we have to look at what yeast actually does.

The Nature of Yeast

Yeast is a tiny microorganism, but it possesses incredible power. A microscopic amount mixed into bread dough doesn’t stay put. It ferments, spreads silently, and eventually influences the entire batch, causing it to puff up and rise.

Because of this invasive, spreading nature, the New Testament frequently uses yeast as a symbol for evil, corruption, or compromise. Just as a small pinch alters the whole loaf, a tiny amount of spiritual compromise can quietly take over a person’s heart or a church community.

The Yeast of the Pharisees: Religious Tradition over Truth

The Pharisees were the ultimate religious insiders, yet Jesus fiercely warned against their “yeast.” Their corruption wasn’t blatant lawlessness; it was legalism.

The Danger: They elevated human traditions and religious rituals above God’s true commands.
The Result: They became spiritually blind, filtering God’s Word through their own preferences and closing their eyes to what He truly desires—mercy, love, and faith.

When we allow legalism or human traditions to dictate our faith, we risk replacing a vibrant relationship with Christ with a hollow checklist.

The Yeast of Herod: Worldly Mindsets and Skepticism

Herod Antipas represented political power, secularism, and a worldly mindset. His “yeast” was rooted in a culture that resisted God’s authority while demanding entertainment or proof.

The Danger: Herod treated Jesus like a magic show, later demanding a sign just to prove His divinity.
The Result: This worldly attitude is purely skeptical. It seeks to use God for personal gain, status, or curiosity rather than submitting to Him as Lord.

Staying on Guard Today

The warning to beware of this yeast is just as urgent for us today. Spiritual compromise rarely happens overnight. It starts with a small shift—accepting human philosophies, blending worldly mindsets into our theology, or letting rigid traditions replace genuine love for God and others.

If we are not careful, these subtle shifts cause us to lose our pure devotion to Christ. To guard against this, we must anchor ourselves daily in the truth of Scripture, allowing the Holy Spirit to search our hearts for any traces of pride, legalism, or worldliness.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today asking for spiritual discernment. Lord, protect our hearts from the subtle influence of compromise. Keep us on guard against the yeast of the Pharisees—save us from rigid legalism, pride, and the temptation to value human traditions over Your living truth. Deliver us also from the yeast of Herod—protect us from worldly mindsets, skepticism, and the desire for cultural approval over Your approval.

Help us to stay firmly anchored in Your Word. Let our faith be pure, undefiled, and completely devoted to Jesus Christ. Search us, O God, and see if there is any corrupting influence hidden within us. Cleanse us and fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit.

The Heart of Jesus: Understanding “I Have Compassion” (Mark 8:2)

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is easy to feel unseen. We carry burdens—physical exhaustion, emotional weariness, and spiritual doubts—often wondering if anyone truly notices. But the Gospels give us a beautiful, comforting assurance: Jesus sees, Jesus cares, and Jesus acts.

In Mark 8:2, Jesus utters three powerful words that change everything for those who follow Him: “I have compassion.”

The Motive Behind the Miracles

Jesus always looked with compassion (Mark 6:34) on the needs and suffering of humanity (Mark 1:41). Throughout the Gospels—the accounts of Jesus’ life given by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—the writers often mention Jesus’ compassion as the primary motive for His miracles and healings.

When He saw the hungry crowd of four thousand in Mark 8, He didn’t just see a logistical problem; He felt their physical hunger in His own heart. He refused to send them away empty-handed because His love compelled Him to provide.

A Compassion That Endures Today

The most incredible truth for us today is that Jesus has not changed. Jesus still has a deep compassion for human needs and hurts. He is not a distant deity unmoved by our struggles. Instead, He continues to show His love by taking care of our needs—often in miraculous ways that are far greater than our human understanding.

In times of trouble, we never have to hide or suffer in silence. We can always come to Him in prayer with the absolute assurance that we will receive grace, mercy, and timely help (Matthew 6:31-32; Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25). The Power of Persistent Faith: Lessons from the Crumbs

In Mark 7:27, we encounter one of the most challenging and deeply misunderstood conversations in the Gospels. A Syrophoenician woman approaches Jesus, begging Him to cast a demon out of her daughter. Jesus responds with a metaphor that jars our modern ears: “Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

At first glance, this can feel harsh. But looking deeper reveals a profound lesson about divine timing, humility, and the relentless faith that God loves to reward.

Understanding the “Children’s Bread”

To understand Jesus’ words, we have to understand the biblical timeline. The “children” Jesus refers to are the people of Israel. Throughout the Old Testament, God chose Israel to be the vessel through whom He would reveal His laws, His prophets, and ultimately, His Messiah.

Jesus was establishing a matter of spiritual priority: His earthly ministry and the message of salvation had to be presented first to Israel. It wasn’t a rejection of the rest of the world, but rather the fulfillment of God’s orderly plan.

A Test of Heart, Not a Direct Rejection

Jesus wasn’t trying to insult the woman; He was testing her faith.

Instead of becoming offended or walking away in anger, this mother responded with brilliant, humble persistence. She fully understood the analogy of the family pet. She didn’t demand the status of a firstborn child; instead, she argued that even the household pets benefit from the abundance of the master’s table.

She recognized a beautiful truth: God’s blessings on Israel are so massive that they naturally overflow to the Gentiles (the rest of the world). She knew that the privileges of God’s kingdom are open to anyone who demonstrates a true, unwavering faith in Christ.

Why Perseverance Matters

Jesus openly marveled at her faith and granted her request, healing her daughter instantly.

This story serves as a powerful reminder for our own prayer lives. When we pray—whether for our own needs or interceding for someone else—we are often called to show perseverance. This isn’t because God is stubborn, distant, or reluctant to help us. Rather, persistent prayer:

Deepens our total dependence on Christ.
Refines our faith when circumstances don’t make sense.
Aligns our hearts with His perfect timing.

If you are waiting on an answer to prayer today, do not lose heart. Keep knocking, keep asking, and trust that the Master’s table holds more than enough grace for you.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your boundless grace that overflows to all who call upon Your name. Give us the humility and the fierce persistence of the woman in this story. When answers seem delayed or when we don’t fully understand Your timing, help us to stand firm in faith. Remind us of Your goodness and deep compassion. Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

Folly—a lack of moral integrity, intellectual understanding, and spiritual discernment—is not just a minor slip in judgment. In Mark 7:22, Jesus lists folly alongside grave sins like theft, murder, and adultery, revealing that it stems directly from the absence of a true personal relationship with God. When we operate in folly, we lack the wholeness, honor, and reliability that a life rooted in Christ provides. It is the ultimate expression of a heart untethered from divine wisdom, serving as the umbrella that sums up the very evils making us spiritually unclean.

True wisdom is not about intellectual pride; it is about a heart aligned with God. To overcome the subtle trap of folly, we must actively seek a deeper, daily relationship with the Creator, allowing His truth to guard our minds and purify our intentions.

A Closing Prayer for Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today acknowledging our deep need for Your wisdom. Forgive us for the times we have allowed folly to creep into our thoughts, our words, and our choices. Cleanse our hearts from the inside out, and root out any trace of dishonesty, pride, or spiritual blindness.

Lord, we don’t just want to know about You; we want to truly know You. Draw us into a closer, deeper personal relationship with You. Grant us the intellectual understanding to navigate this world, the moral integrity to stand firm in truth, and the spiritual discernment to choose Your ways over our own. Let our lives reflect Your honor, wholeness, and reliability to everyone we meet.

MEN’S HEARTS / MARK 7:20-23

And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. ²¹For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²²Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Guarding the Core: Understanding and Transforming the Heart

In Mark 7:20–23, Jesus shares a profound and sobering truth with His followers: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come.”

When Jesus speaks of what makes a person “unclean,” He is not referring to physical dirt or a failure to follow outward ceremonial rituals. Instead, He is talking about spiritual corruption. To be unclean in this sense means to be spiritually corrupted in a way that separates us from the life and purposes of God, ultimately ruining our relationship with Christ.

Throughout Scripture, the “heart” is never just considered the seat of our emotions. It represents a person’s entire inner being. It encompasses your intellect, your motives, your deepest desires, and your will. It is the control center of who you are. Because it holds this central role, an impure heart will inevitably corrupt every outward expression of your life—contaminating your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. As Proverbs 4:23 warns us, we must guard our hearts above all else, for everything we do flows from it.

As followers of Christ, we are called to a higher standard than simply managing our external behavior. We are called to live in a way that reflects a heart that is genuinely new and transformed. This inner transformation is entirely different from what is natural in the world around us. Instead of letting the culture shape our desires, our inner being must become more and more like Jesus every single day. Outward righteousness is only real when it is the natural overflow of an inward renewal.

Let us commit to examining our inner lives, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the hidden motives and desires that do not align with God’s holiness, and allowing Him to cultivate a clean heart within us.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today recognizing that You see beyond our outward appearances and look directly at our hearts. Lord, we confess that our inner thoughts, motives, and desires are not always pure, and we need Your transforming power. Cleanse us from the spiritual corruption that separates us from Your purposes and hinders our relationship with Jesus.

Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Let Your Holy Spirit take control of our intellect, our emotions, and our will, so that our lives may naturally reflect Your goodness. Help us to guard our hearts diligently and live in a way that is distinctly different from the world, becoming more like Jesus in everything we say and do.
