HOLY SPIRIT / JOHN 14:26

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Counselor Within: Understanding the Character of the Holy Spirit

In John 14:26, Jesus gives His disciples a profound promise: “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

When we think about the Holy Spirit, our minds often jump straight to His power—the dynamic force that empowers us to witness, perform miracles, and endure trials. While His power is undeniable, Jesus introduces Him with a specific title that shifts our focus from what He gives to who He is: The Holy Spirit.

For every believer, the most vital aspect of the Spirit is His holiness.

Power vs. Character

Holiness, when applied to God, signifies absolute purity, perfection, completeness, and total separation from evil. Therefore, our relationship with the Holy Spirit cannot simply be about transactional requests for strength or comfort. It must be anchored in His character.

The Holy Spirit’s character, and how that character is reflected in our daily lives, is what truly matters. As the Scripture notes:

Romans 1:4 reminds us of the Spirit of holiness.
Galatians 5:22-26 outlines the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

These are traits of character, not just demonstrations of raw power.

Reflecting His Holiness

Because the Holy Spirit lives inside those who follow Jesus, we are called to be mirrors of His divine character. This means walking in:

Moral purity in a world that often compromises.
Spiritual wholeness and integrity behind closed doors.
Separation from evil and a deliberate devotion to God’s structural purposes.

Here is the beautiful paradox of the Christian walk: when the Spirit’s character is evident in our lives, our spiritual power naturally increases. True effectiveness in sharing Christ’s message doesn’t come from human talent; it flows from a life marked by the purity and integrity of the Counselor within us.

A Closing Prayer for Guidance and Purity

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom You have sent in Jesus’ name. Forgive us for the times we have sought His power without honoring His holiness. We ask that You transform our hearts today. Let Your Spirit produce His beautiful fruit in our lives, separating us from evil and aligning us with Your perfect devotion.

Teach us all things, remind us of Your truth, and grant us the integrity to reflect Your character to a world in need. May our lives be a pure vessel for Your message.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
