A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS AND A HOLY NATION / EXODUS 19:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 19:6

And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

A Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation: Embracing Our Divine Calling

When God delivered the Israelites from the gripping bondage of Egypt, His rescue mission had a profound blueprint. In Exodus 19:6, God declares His ultimate vision for His people: “and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

This wasn’t just a catchy title for a newly freed people. It was a radical, foundational identity. To be a “kingdom of priests” meant every single person was set apart for God’s service, acting as a bridge between the Creator and the rest of the world. To be a “holy nation” meant being distinct, reflecting God’s character, purity, and justice to the surrounding nations.

The New Covenant Blueprint

Fast forward to the New Testament, and we discover that this high calling didn’t expire in the wilderness. Through Jesus Christ, this divine identity has been passed directly to us.

The Apostle Peter mirrors the language of Exodus beautifully when describing followers of Jesus: “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood… you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Peter 2:5-9). This theme echoes all the way through the Book of Revelation, reminding us that Christ has made us a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father (Revelation 1:6; Revelation 5:10).

Under the new covenant, you don’t need a special lineage to have direct access to God. You are the priest. You have the privilege of entering His presence, and you carry the responsibility of representing Him to the world.

The Requirement of Holiness

Living as a holy nation requires a deliberate choice: we must separate ourselves from ungodly behavior.

True holiness isn’t about legalistic rules; it is about devotion. It means looking at the culture around us and choosing love over bitterness, integrity over compromise, and purity over pollution. Just as the early believers were called to be “saints”—which literally means sanctified or set apart—we are called to live lives that look vastly different from the world (Acts 9:13).

Only when we intentionally step away from ungodly patterns can we clearly hear, follow, and execute God’s righteous plans and purposes for our lives.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for rescuing us from darkness and bringing us into Your marvelous light. Thank You for the breathtaking privilege of being called Your kingdom of priests and Your holy nation. We do not take this identity lightly.

Lord, we ask for the strength and wisdom to live lives that are truly set apart for Your glory. Cleanse our hearts from ungodly behaviors, compromises, and attitudes that hinder our relationship with You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may accurately represent Your love, justice, and purity to a world that desperately needs to see You.

Let our daily lives be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing in Your sight. Guide our steps so that we may fully walk in Your righteous plans and purposes today.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
