(KJV) John 16:14

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The ultimate mission of the Holy Spirit is to make much of Jesus.

In the Gospel of John, as Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure, He gives them an incredible promise regarding the coming Counselor. He tells them in John 16:14: “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” This verse uncovers a beautiful truth about the Christian life: your spiritual growth is not about discovering something beyond Christ, but about the Holy Spirit unveiling more of what is already yours in Him.

The Spirit’s Selfless Mission

The Holy Spirit never draws attention to Himself. Instead, He acts like a divine spotlight, completely focused on bringing honor to Christ. He does not invent a new message or offer a separate spiritual track. Rather, He takes everything that belongs to Jesus—His words, His truth, and the fullness of the Father’s promises—and makes it intensely clear, compelling, and personal to you.

Through the indwelling of the Spirit, our abstract knowledge about God becomes a living, breathing reality. The Spirit is the one who enables us to truly experience:

• Jesus’ physical-like presence comforting us in moments of deep isolation.
• The depth of His love and forgiveness, washing away our guilt.
• His supernatural character and power taking root inside our imperfect hearts.
• Spiritual gifts and divine healing, manifesting the reality of His active kingdom.

Experiencing the Fullness of Your Relationship

Before the Holy Spirit was poured out, the disciples had Jesus next to them. But through the Spirit, believers have Jesus inside them. As highlighted in John 14:16–23, this intimacy means we never walk alone.

The Holy Spirit gently prompts our hearts and opens our minds through the Word of God. When you read the Scriptures, the Spirit tears away the veil of human confusion and tradition, revealing the majesty of the risen Lord. As He makes you more acutely aware of Jesus’ presence in your daily life, your faith is naturally strengthened. You are no longer trying to obey God out of sheer duty; instead, you are inspired to love, obey, and worship Him with an authentic, burning passion.

Testing Our Spiritual Walk

Because the Spirit’s primary role is to glorify Jesus, this verse serves as a perfect anchor for our faith. We can evaluate our teachings, our thoughts, and our spiritual experiences by asking one simple question: Does this lead me to trust, love, and obey Jesus more? If it points back to Christ, you can be certain it is the voice of the Spirit leading you deeper into the boundless inheritance you already possess.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful gift of the Holy Spirit, who lives inside everyone who trusts in Your Son. Holy Spirit, I ask that You would fulfill Your ultimate mission in my life today: glorify Jesus in and through me. Take what belongs to Him—His peace, His character, His truth, and His love—and declare it deeply to my soul.

Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own strength or allowed fear to cloud my sight. Open the eyes of my understanding as I read Your Word. Help me to recognize Your gentle promptings, so that I may be conformed to the image of Christ and walk in an obedience fueled by passion rather than obligation. Let Your presence be my constant comfort, and let my life point others back to the Savior.

In Jesus’ beautiful name, I pray. Amen.
