(KJV) Ephesians 2:18
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Bold Access: Coming Home to the Father
We live in a world of barriers. Security checkpoints, exclusive memberships, and velvet ropes remind us that some places—and some people—are completely off-limits. But when it comes to the Creator of the universe, the door is wide open.
In Ephesians 2:18, the Apostle Paul shares a profound truth that changes everything about how we approach God: “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”
This single verse beautifully illustrates the Trinity working together to bring us home. It reveals that you are never a stranger to God, and you never have to earn your way into His presence.
1. The Meaning of Access
The word “access” means we who have faith in Christ have the absolute freedom and right to approach our heavenly Father. You don’t have to wait in line, and you don’t need to feel disqualified. Because of this access, you can come to Him with total confidence, knowing that you will always be accepted, welcomed, and loved.
2. Gained Through the Son
This access was bought at a high price. Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin and to restore our opportunity for a personal relationship with God. He tore down the wall of separation. Even right now, Christ continues to intercede for you—mediating and pleading your case to His Father in heaven.
3. Empowered by the Spirit
We don’t walk into God’s presence under our own strength. Access to God requires the Holy Spirit’s help. The Spirit’s power alive within us makes it possible to pray according to God’s perfect will and purpose. When we don’t have the words, the Spirit steps in, reminding us that we are dearly loved children of God.
A Closing Prayer for Bold Access
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the incredible gift of access to Your presence. Forgive me for the times I behave like an outsider or allow fear and shame to keep me at a distance.
Thank You, Jesus, for paying the ultimate price on the cross to tear down every barrier between us. Thank You for continuously interceding for me and making me welcome at the throne of grace. Holy Spirit, guide my heart and give me the words to pray. Help me to live today in the full confidence that I am accepted, secure, and deeply loved by my Father.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
