And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

The Blood of the Saints: Standing for Truth in a Compromised World

In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John is given a breathtaking and sometimes terrifying glimpse into the end of the age. Among the many vivid images he records, one of the most sobering is found in Revelation 17:6:

“I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.”

This verse pulls back the spiritual curtain on a harsh reality: the false religion, in cooperation with the world system, will persecute everyone who is truly devoted to Christ and authentic Biblical faith.

The Unholy Alliance

John sees a symbolic woman—often referred to as the Whore of Babylon—riding a multi-headed beast. This imagery represents a future, global coalition where corrupt religious systems link arms with political and economic power.

This alliance doesn’t target the casual observer or the culturally religious. It explicitly hunts down the saints—those who refuse to compromise the truth of God’s Word, and those who maintain a fierce, unshakeable loyalty to Jesus Christ.

Why the World Hates Authentic Faith

Why does this system react with such violent hostility toward true believers?

It exposes falsehood: Authentic Biblical faith acts as a light. When you live out the truth, it naturally exposes the darkness and deception of a compromised culture.
It refuses to bow: The world system demands total conformity. Because true Christians bow their knees to King Jesus alone, they are viewed as a threat to the system’s control.
It holds to absolute truth: In an era of moral relativism where “your truth” replaces the truth, standing firmly on the Word of God makes you a target.

Finding Our Strength in the Testimony

While Revelation 17:6 paints a heavy picture, it also reminds us of who we are. The saints are defined as “those who bore testimony to Jesus.”

History has proven that while persecution can break the body, it cannot extinguish the testimony of the Church. The blood of the martyrs has historically been the seed of the Church. When believers value Christ more than their own comfort—and even their own lives—the enemy’s system ultimately loses its power over them.

As the days grow darker and the pressure to compromise increases, our calling remains unchanged. We are called to be anchored in the Word, devoted to Christ, and willing to stand firm, knowing that our ultimate victory is already secured in Him.

A Closing Prayer for Spiritual Fortitude

Heavenly Father,

We come before You acknowledging that the path of true discipleship is narrow and often filled with opposition. Lord, Your Word warns us that the world system and false deceptions will rise up against those who love You. We pray today for the global Church, especially for our brothers and sisters currently facing severe persecution for the sake of Your Name.

Grant us, Lord, an unshakeable boldness. Fill us with the Holy Spirit so that we may stand firmly rooted in authentic Biblical faith, refusing to compromise for the sake of cultural approval. When pressure comes, let our lives bear an undeniable testimony to the truth and grace of King Jesus.

We thank You that no matter what the systems of this world attempt to do, You have already overcome the world. Keep our eyes fixed on eternity, and protect our hearts from fear. May we be found faithful, devoted, and true until the very end.

In the mighty and victorious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
