(KJV) Revelation 3:11

Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

The imminent return of Jesus Christ is a cornerstone of Christian hope. In Revelation 3:11,

Jesus issues a stirring declaration to the faithful church in Philadelphia: “I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”

When we read this verse in tandem with the preceding context of Revelation 3:10, a powerful and encouraging truth emerges. Jesus promises to keep His faithful servants from “the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world.” This close connection reveals that Christ’s coming to take up His church from the earth will be the absolute means of their rescue, echoing the promises found in 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:14-18.

However, this comforting assurance also carries a sobering reminder: rescue from the hour of tribulation is promised to those who remain faithfully devoted to Christ and His Word. Just as Jesus praised the Philadelphian church because they “have kept my word and have not denied my name” (Revelation 3:8), we too are called to endurance.

Holding fast means protecting our faith against the drift of cultural compromise, staying rooted in Scripture, and keeping our eyes firmly fixed on the horizon. The promise of His swift return is not an excuse for passivity, but a catalyst for persistent devotion.

A Closing Prayer for Endurance

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful and comforting promise of Your Son’s return. We rejoice in the knowledge that Jesus is coming soon, and that our ultimate rescue is secure in Him.

Lord, as we navigate a world full of trials and shifting shadows, we ask for the grace to hold fast. Strengthen our hearts so that we remain fiercely devoted to Your Word and completely uncompromised in our faith. Keep us watchful, ready, and deeply rooted in Your truth, so that we may stand before You with confidence on that glorious day.

In the mighty and matching name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
