START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Philippians 3:20-21
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Our True Homeland: Living as Citizens of Heaven
In a world that constantly demands our attention, allegiance, and conformity, it is easy to forget where we truly belong. We get caught up in the stress of daily life, the shifting landscape of society, and the temporary anxieties of this earth. But the Apostle Paul offers us a radical shift in perspective in Philippians 3:20-21:
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Strangers and Pilgrims on the Earth
By choosing to follow Jesus, we have fundamentally changed our status in this world. We are no longer citizens of this earth; we have become strangers, aliens, and pilgrims passing through (1 Peter 2:11, Hebrews 11:13). Jesus Himself said of His followers, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of it” (John 17:16).
Think of your life as a journey. This world is not the destination; it’s just the road. We have been born from above (John 3:3), our names are written in heaven’s directory (Philippians 4:3), and our inheritance is safely kept where rust and moth cannot destroy (1 Peter 1:4-5).
Guided by a Higher Standard
Because our primary allegiance belongs to a heavenly kingdom, the values of this world no longer dictate how we live. We don’t love, forgive, or build relationships based on earthly standards. Instead, we live by the culture of heaven—one defined by sacrificial love, radical grace, and enduring hope.
When we remain faithful to God, our connection to our true home remains active. Our prayers reach the heavens (2 Chronicles 30:27) and our anchor of hope is firmly secured within the veil (Hebrews 6:19-20). We look forward to a city prepared specifically for us by God, who is not ashamed to be called our God (Hebrews 11:16).
A Glorious Transformation Awaits
The beautiful promise at the end of Paul’s message is that our citizen rights come with a complete transformation. Jesus is currently preparing a place for us, and He has promised to return (John 14:2-3). When He does, the brokenness, sickness, and decay of our earthly existence will vanish. By His supreme power, He will transform our lowly bodies to match His glorious, resurrected body.
If you are feeling weary, displaced, or disconnected from the world around you today, take heart. That longing you feel is homesickness. Keep your eyes fixed on the horizon, live out the values of your true Homeland, and eagerly await the Savior who is coming to take us home.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank You that this broken world is not our final resting place. Thank You for purchasing our citizenship in heaven through the precious blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Remind us daily that we are just passing through this earth, so that we may not hold too tightly to temporary things.
Help us to live as faithful ambassadors of Your Kingdom today. Let our lives reflect the love, grace, and holiness of our true homeland. When we grow weary or discouraged by the trials of this life, anchor our hearts in the glorious hope of Your return. We eagerly await the day when You will transform our weakness into Your glory and bring us safely home to be with You forever.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
