And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

Faithful Until Finished: Standing Unafraid in the Face of the Beast

In the grand tapestry of biblical prophecy, few chapters grip our attention like Revelation 11. It introduces us to the two witnesses—bold, uncompromising prophets who stand in the public square of an ungodly world to declare the truth of Jesus Christ.

But then we hit a jarring shift in verse 7:

“When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the bottomless pit will make war on them, conquer them, and kill them.”

(Revelation 11:7, NRSV)

At first glance, this verse feels like a tragic defeat. The “beast”—the Antichrist, that ultimate embodiment of lawlessness described throughout Revelation and by Paul in 2 Thessalonians—seemingly wins. The voices of truth are silenced. The world, drowning in the immorality of “Sodom” and the worldliness of “Egypt,” rejoices.

But look closer. There is a profound, life-altering truth hidden in the timing of this event.

Invincible Until Your Work is Done

The text explicitly notes that the beast could not touch the witnesses until they had finished their testimony.

This is a universal truth for every servant of God. As long as you are walking in the center of God’s will and fulfilling the assignment He has given you, you are completely invincible to the schemes of the enemy. The adversary cannot cut your purpose short. Satan cannot cancel a divine appointment.

Whether the two witnesses represent two literal individuals in the end times or symbolize the global Church’s prophetic presence and witness under severe persecution, the message remains unchanged: God is sovereign over the life, ministry, and timing of His people.

Speaking Truth to an Antichrist Culture

The witnesses were targeted because they brought the prophetic truth of Christ into an audience that hated it. They spoke out boldly against the sins of their culture. Today, the Church faces a similar, creeping pressure to conform, to quiet down, and to tolerate the world’s standard of worldliness and immorality.

Persecution may come, and the freedom to preach may face fierce opposition, but Revelation 11 reminds us that death is not the final word. Just a few verses later, God breathes life back into these witnesses, and they ascend to heaven.

Do not fear the “beasts” of this world, the cultural pushback, or the trial of standing alone. Your times are in His hands. Speak the truth boldly, love deeply, and remain faithful until your work is finished.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Lord of all creation and Sovereign Ruler over history, we bow before You today acknowledging that our lives are completely in Your hands. Grant us the supernatural boldness of the witnesses. In a world that often values compromise, worldliness, and silence, give us the courage to speak the truth of Jesus Christ with love and unwavering conviction.

We pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who are currently facing severe persecution, whose freedoms are being stripped away by systems of lawlessness. Protect them, strengthen their faith, and remind them that the enemy has no power over their eternal destiny.

Help us to live with the confidence that we are preserved and empowered until our earthly assignment is fully accomplished. Let us not shrink back in fear, but run our race with endurance, looking forward to the day of final victory when every tear will be wiped away.
