I AM THE RESURRECTION / JOHN 11:25-26

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 11:25-26

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Beyond the Grave: Finding Hope in “I Am the Resurrection”

When we stand face-to-face with the reality of death, the world suddenly feels incredibly fragile. Whether we are grieving the loss of a loved one or wrestling with our own mortality, the finality of the grave can seem overwhelming.

But in the eleventh chapter of John, Jesus steps directly into our grief with a declaration that changes everything:

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?’” — John 11:25-26

The Gateway, Not the End

For those who have entrusted their lives to Jesus, physical death is not a tragic end. It is instead the gateway to eternal life with God.

When Jesus promises that the believer “will live,” He is pointing directly to the future resurrection that awaits every single one of His followers. Death is merely a temporary sleep for the body, waiting for the morning of the resurrection.

Safe from the Second Death

Even more comforting is His second promise: whoever believes in Him “will never die.”

How can this be true when Christians still face physical death every day? Jesus is speaking about our eternal reality. While our physical bodies may temporarily give way, a follower of Christ will never experience spiritual death. This is what Scripture calls the “second death” (Revelation 2:11)—the final, eternal punishment and permanent separation from God’s presence.

Because of Jesus, your soul is entirely safe from that judgment.

A Glorious Transformation

We are not destined to be disembodied spirits forever. Christ’s followers will be resurrected with new bodies. As the Apostle Paul writes, what is sown in decay will be raised in glory (1 Corinthians 15:42, 54).

We will receive immortal, incorruptible bodies that:

  • Cannot die or deteriorate (Romans 8:10)
  • Are completely free from sickness, pain, and aging (2 Corinthians 4:16)
  • Are perfectly designed to enjoy God’s new creation forever

The decay we see in the mirror today is not our final story. The weakness we feel in our joints or the illness we fight in our bodies will one day be entirely swallowed up by the life of Christ.

The Ultimate Question

Jesus ended His conversation with Martha with a deeply personal question: “Do you believe this?”

He didn’t ask her to understand all the mysteries of the universe. He asked her to trust His character. Today, He asks us the same thing. When we look past the pain of this world and fix our eyes on the One who conquered the grave, fear loses its grip.

Physical death is coming for us all, but in Christ, the grave is just a doorway to a life that will never end.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be our Resurrection and our Life. We confess that the reality of death can often bring fear and sorrow into our hearts, but today we choose to rest in Your great promises. Thank You that because of Christ’s victory over the grave, physical death is no longer a final destination, but the gateway into Your presence.

We praise You that we are safe from spiritual separation and that You have promised us a future of incorruptible, immortal life. Comfort those who are grieving today. Fill us with an unshakable hope that looks past the temporary trials of this body and rejoices in the eternal glory to come. Help us to live every day in the power of the resurrection.

In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, Amen.
