Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

That We May Understand: The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Have you ever tried reading a complex technical manual or a book in a foreign language? Without a guide or a translator, the words on the page remain a mystery. Many people approach the Bible the same way—feeling overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected.

But God did not leave us to figure out His truth on our own. In 1 Corinthians 2:12, the Apostle Paul shares a profound truth about how we can truly know and comprehend God:

“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” (1 Corinthians 2:12, NIV)

The Divine Translator

God’s Spirit knows all things and fully understands the nature and depth of God’s plans. Because the Holy Spirit is God, He holds the ultimate key to unlocking the mysteries of scripture and the heart of the Father.

When you accept Christ, you receive a divine counselor. The Spirit functions as a heavenly translator, bridging the gap between human limitation and divine wisdom.

Revealing God’s Gracious Gifts

The “spirit of the world” pushes us toward human wisdom, self-reliance, and pride. In contrast, the Holy Spirit works in the proper time and way to reveal and shine His light upon the things that God has prepared for those who truly love Him.

As we read and study the Bible, the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding of the truth. He takes ancient words and transforms them into living, breathing guidance for our daily lives.

A Blessed Assurance

The Holy Spirit does not just give us academic knowledge; He provides deep conviction. The Spirit gives Christ’s faithful followers a strong assurance of the divine origin of the Bible.

Through scriptures like John 16:13 and Ephesians 1:17, we learn that the Spirit guides us into all truth and gives us wisdom to know God intimately. You can move forward in faith, knowing that God’s promises are secure, true, and meant for you to understand.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for not leaving me in the dark, but for giving me a Divine Guide to help me navigate Your Word and Your will. Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own human intellect or the wisdom of this world. Open my eyes and enlighten my heart today. Help me to fully understand, receive, and appreciate all the beautiful things You have freely given me. Give me a strong assurance of Your truth and steady my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

A Demonstration of the Spirit’s Power: Moving Beyond Human Wisdom

When the Apostle Paul walked into the city of Corinth, he did not rely on flashy rhetoric or human philosophy to win people over. Instead, he made a conscious choice to lean entirely on God. In 1 Corinthians 2:4, he writes: “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

Because of Paul’s deep humility and total reliance on the Holy Spirit, powerful works characterized his entire ministry. He understood that human eloquence might move the mind, but only the Holy Spirit can transform the human heart.

How the Holy Spirit Demonstrates His Power

Paul’s preaching was grounded in the reality of the Holy Spirit’s active presence. According to the New Testament, this divine power manifests in several distinct ways:

  • Conviction of Sin: The Spirit exposes wrongdoing and convinces people of their need to get right with God through faith in the risen Christ (1 Corinthians 5-6; John 16:8).
  • Transformed Lives: God regularly uses the simple, the broken, and the overlooked to confound the wise of this world, radically changing their identity and purpose (1 Corinthians 1:26-27).
  • Spiritual Purity and Wholeness: The Holy Spirit cleanses believers, bringing functional discipline, moral purity, and a restored sense of divine purpose to our lives (1 Corinthians 5:3-5).
  • Signs and Miracles: The gospel message in the early church was consistently authenticated through supernatural healings, deliverance, and wonders (Romans 15:19; 2 Corinthians 12:12).

This supernatural backing was not unique to Paul. Across the New Testament—from the Gospels to the Epistles—the preaching of Jesus was naturally accompanied by the explosive power of the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:17-18; 1 Thessalonians 1:5; Hebrews 2:4).

A Call to Every Believer

This dynamic lifestyle is not reserved strictly for pastors or full-time ministers. Every single follower of Christ is called to step out in faith and pray for the Spirit to move through their daily lives and service.

When we serve, we should boldly pray for five specific outcomes:

  1. Salvation: That everyday conversations will lead people to know Jesus intimately and be spiritually saved.
  2. Spirit Infilling: That new believers will be completely filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered for service.
  3. Deliverance: That evil spirits will be forced out of people’s lives, breaking generational chains and spiritual oppression.
  4. Healing: That the sick will be physically and emotionally restored through the authority of Jesus’ name.
  5. True Discipleship: That people will grow into disciplined learners who gladly obey Christ’s commands and live by His high standards.

Let us stop relying on our own limited strength. When we anchor our lives in humility and total dependence on God, we create space for the Holy Spirit to put His undeniable power on display.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the truth of Your Word. Forgive us for the times we have relied on our own intellect, talent, and strength instead of leaning on You. Holy Spirit, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your presence today. Strip away our pride and clothe us with the humility of Christ.

As we serve You in our workplaces, homes, and communities, let our lives be a genuine demonstration of Your power. We pray that through our witness, the lost will be saved, the bound will find total deliverance, the sick will be miraculously healed, and lives will be completely transformed. Raise us up to be true, disciplined followers of Jesus who live by Your standards. We anchor our faith not in human wisdom, but in Your unchanging power. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

Beyond Clever Words: The True Power of the Gospel

When you share your faith, do you ever feel completely unqualified? Maybe you worry that you do not know enough theology, or that your words will sound clumsy.

If so, you are in good company. The Apostle Paul—one of the most influential leaders in church history—felt the exact same way.

In 1 Corinthians 2:1, Paul makes a surprising confession:

“And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.”

Stripping Away the Performance

Paul was a highly educated man, yet he intentionally chose not to rely on fancy speeches, popular appeal, or the latest cultural trends. He did not try to impress people with brilliant philosophy or clever arguments.

Why? Because he knew that human wisdom has limitations. It can move the emotions or stimulate the mind, but it cannot save a soul.

Instead, Paul stripped away the performance and focused entirely on the core truth of the gospel:

  • Forgiveness for our past through Christ’s sacrifice.
  • New life for our present day.
  • An eternal relationship with God through faith.

Dependent on the Spirit

Paul was acutely aware of his own weakness. Because he knew he couldn’t change hearts on his own, he relied entirely on the message of Christ and the raw power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4).

By stepping out of the spotlight, Paul ensured that people’s attention was drawn directly to God. He wanted their faith to rest securely on God’s authority and power, not on human talent.

You do not need to be a flawless speaker or a perfect theologian to be used by God. When you rely less on your own abilities and more on the Holy Spirit, God’s power shines through your limitations. The simplest testimony spoken in faith is always more powerful than the most eloquent speech spoken in pride.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Forgive me for the times I let the fear of my own limitations keep me silent. Help me to remember that You do not call the qualified; You qualify the called. Take my simple words, my weaknesses, and my insecurities, and use them for Your glory.

Holy Spirit, speak through me. Let my faith and my witness rely completely on Your power and not on my own cleverness. Keep my focus fixed on the beautiful truth of Jesus Christ, so that anyone who hears my story will see Your hand at work.

SALT / MARK 9:50

 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

The Seasoning of the Soul: Staying Salty in a World of Compromise

We live in a world that thrives on flavor. From the food we eat to the entertainment we consume, we constantly look for something that packs a punch. But two thousand years ago, Jesus sat with His disciples and used a common household element to describe a profound spiritual reality.

In Mark 9:50, He delivers a striking command:

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

At first glance, it sounds simple. Salt is good. We know this. It enhances flavor, cures meat, and preserves food from decay. But Jesus wasn’t giving a culinary lesson. He was issuing a warning and a call to action for every believer.

1. The Value: “Salt is Good”

In the ancient world, salt was a commodity so valuable that Roman soldiers were sometimes paid in it (the root of our word salary). It had two primary functions: preservation and flavor. As Christians, we are called to be the moral preservation of a decaying culture. We are called to bring the distinct, life-giving flavor of Christ into every room we walk into. When we live out truth, justice, love, and mercy, we change the atmosphere around us.

2. The Danger: Losing the Flavor

Jesus asks a haunting rhetorical question: “If it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?” Pure sodium chloride doesn’t actually lose its flavor, but in the ancient world, the salt gathered from the Dead Sea was full of impurities. If exposed to moisture, the actual salt would dissolve away, leaving behind a useless, chalky white powder that looked like salt but had no power.

This is the danger of spiritual compromise. When we dilute our faith to blend in with the world, we lose our distinctiveness. We become ineffective. We look the part, but we carry none of the power.

3. The Call: Cultivating Inner Salt and Outward Peace

Jesus concludes with a dual command: “Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

True saltiness isn’t about being abrasive, harsh, or combative. Some Christians mistake being “salty” for being argumentative. But Jesus ties our spiritual flavor directly to how we treat one another. To have salt among ourselves means to maintain a sharp, holy devotion to God, while letting that holiness manifest as peace with those around us.

When we are filled with the true salt of the Spirit, we preserve unity, break down walls, and make the Gospel attractive to a world that is starving for genuine substance. Don’t lose your flavor. Stay distinct, stay holy, and stay at peace.

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the living word of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, You have called us to be the salt of the earth, to bring preservation, light, and flavor to a world that often feels dark and decaying. We ask that You search our hearts today. Forgive us for the times we have allowed compromise to dilute our witness and strip away our distinctiveness.

We pray that You would renew our passion and restore our “saltiness.” Fill us fresh with Your Holy Spirit so that our lives may point others directly to Your goodness. Help us to hold fast to Your truth while walking in deep, authentic peace with one another. Let our speech always be seasoned with grace, and let our unity be a testament to Your love.

SALTED WITH FIRE / MARK 9:49

Everyone will be salted with fire.

Salted with Fire: The Two Paths of Spiritual Heat

It is often called one of the most difficult and jarring statements in the New Testament. Standing at the climax of a sobering warning about sin, stumbling blocks, and eternity, Jesus utters these cryptic words: “Everyone will be salted with fire.” (Mark 9:49) [(https://biblehub.com/q/Meaning_of_everyone_salted_with_fire.htm “What does “everyone will be salted with fire” mean in Mark 9:49?”)].

What does it mean to be seasoned with flame?

When we look closely at the text, Christ presents us with an absolute certainty: heat is coming for everyone. No one escapes the fire. The sting of rejection, persecution, and suffering is a universal reality. However, we are given a stark choice in how we encounter that fire. We will either be salted with fire in this life for our correction, or salted with fire in the next life for our condemnation.

Here are the two ways every human soul will encounter the fire:

1. The Refining Fire of Discipleship (In This Life)

For those who truly follow Jesus, being “salted with fire” means enduring the tough, painful discipline of spiritual purification. Salt heals, preserves, and cleanses, but when it hits an open wound, it stings.

When we give up everything to follow Christ, we must expect the sting of rejection and persecution from a world that rejected Him (John 15:18-21). True discipleship requires radical self-denial—cutting away the fleshly attachments, pride, and ambition that interfere with our love for God (Luke 14:33-34, Mark 9:43-47). This fire is not meant to destroy us; it is sent to refine us, preserve our faith, and ensure we remain “salty” and effective agents of peace in a decaying world.

2. The Unquenchable Fire of Judgment (In the Next Life)

The alternative path is terrifying. Directly before speaking of the salting process, Jesus explicitly warns of the unquenchable fire of hell where “their worm does not die” (Mark 9:47-48).

For those who reject Jesus and refuse the purifying, transforming work of the Holy Spirit in this life, the fire they face will be one of ultimate judgment. Instead of a refining fire that burns away sin to save the soul, it is a consuming fire of eternal consequence.

Choose the Refiner’s Fire

Jesus finishes His thought by urging us: “Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” (Mark 9:50).

Do not run from the seasons of affliction, the correction of the Word, or the sting of standing up for Christ. Welcome His purifying work today [0.6.5]. Let the fire burn away pride and worldly attachments now, so that you may stand holy, preserved, and pleasing before Him for eternity.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, Lord and Refiner of our souls, we acknowledge that Your word is a consuming fire. We pray that You purify our hearts today of all sin, pride, and fleshly attachments that interfere with our love for You. When we suffer the sting of rejection, trials, or persecution for the cause of Christ, give us the grace to endure with patience and virtue. We welcome Your refining fire in this life, choosing to surrender our own will and carry our cross daily. Keep us salty, Lord—preserved by Your everlasting covenant and living at peace with those around us. We give ourselves entirely to You, trusting in Your mercy and salvation. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Radical Spiritual Surgery: Confronting the Reality of Sin

We live in a world that loves comfort and avoids conflict. We are told to “follow our hearts” and tolerate almost anything. But when we open the pages of Scripture, we often find a message that is shockingly intense. In Mark 9:43, Jesus delivers one of the most sobering warnings in the entire Bible:

“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.”

These are heavy words. They disrupt our comfort and force us to look at a reality we often prefer to ignore: the terrifying nature of hell and the absolute destructiveness of sin.

The Weight of Hell

Jesus doesn’t mince words when describing hell. He calls it a place of “unquenchable fire”—a state of ultimate, eternal separation from God. It is so terrible, so devastating, that every influence of sin in our lives must be opposed and rejected, no matter the cost.

If we truly understood the weight of eternity, we would view sin not as a minor flaw or a permissible bad habit, but as a deadly poison. Sin separates us from our Creator, breaks our fellowship with Him, and destines us for destruction. It is an enemy that must be taken seriously.

Radical “Spiritual Surgery”

To reinforce just how urgent this battle is, Jesus uses hyperbole—a figure of speech that uses vivid exaggeration to make a profound point. He isn’t commanding us to literally mutilate our physical bodies. Cutting off a physical hand wouldn’t actually stop a heart from lusting or coveting.

Instead, Jesus is calling us to a radical “spiritual surgery.”

He is telling us that conquering sin requires drastic, painful measures. It means cutting off toxic relationships, throwing away things that trigger temptation, changing our habits, and putting boundaries in place that the world might think are extreme. As the Apostle Paul later wrote in Colossians 3:5, we must “put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature.” You don’t negotiate with something that is trying to kill you; you destroy it.

Empowered for the Battle

If we try to perform this spiritual surgery on our own, we will fail. Our willpower is simply not enough to overcome the pull of our fallen nature.

The good news is that we are not left to fight this battle alone. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are given the strength to wage war against darkness. Romans 8:13 reminds us that “if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

Every single day, we must put on the full armor of God and resolve never to stop our battle against sin. It is a lifelong pursuit of holiness, driven by love for the God who saved us, and a healthy reverence for the eternity that awaits us.

What is the “hand” or “foot” in your life today that needs to be cut off? What is the compromise you’ve been tolerating? Let us choose the temporary pain of radical obedience over the eternal regret of compromise.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, Almighty God,

Your words are a sharp sword, convicting our hearts and revealing the gravity of our choices. Lord, forgive us for the times we have treated sin lightly, and for the times we have played with the very things that grieve Your Spirit.

We ask for holy courage today. Give us the resolve to perform whatever radical spiritual surgery is necessary in our lives. Help us to cut away the habits, thoughts, and associations that pull us away from You. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, for we know that we cannot win this battle in our own strength. Kindle in us a desire for holiness, and keep our eyes fixed tightly on eternity.

Thank You for Your grace, Your mercy, and the cross of Jesus Christ that delivers us from the power of hell. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.

Standing on the Promise: The Comfort and Challenge of “I Am with You”

The final words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew contain one of the most powerful declarations in all of Scripture: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20).

This isn’t just a passive sentiment to make us feel good; it is a profound, active reality. When Jesus gave the Great Commission, He wasn’t sending His disciples out on a solo mission. This promise is Christ’s assurance to His followers who are actively involved in reaching and winning those who are spiritually lost—gaining them for Christ’s kingdom—and teaching them to obey His standards of truth.

Because Jesus has risen from the dead, He is alive and active in our lives today. We are never left to navigate this world, or our faith, in our own strength.

A Personal Presence for Every Season

God is personally interested in each one of His children. He hasn’t left us to fend for ourselves; rather, He has promised to be with us in the person of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, 26). We also experience His abiding presence through His written Word, which anchors our hearts in truth (John 14:23).

No matter what your status or condition—whether you are rich or poor, weak or humble, famous or relatively unknown—He cares for you. He watches every single detail of your life with deep, loving care.

  • He knows your struggles: He understands your difficulties, your quiet heartaches, and your daily pressures.
  • He provides sufficient grace: When you feel inadequate, He gives you the strength to endure anything with His help, reminding us that His grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • He gives supernatural joy: God’s presence can fill every believer with joy in any and all circumstances (Psalms 16:11; 21:6).

The Living Answer to Our Fears

There is an incredible depth to this reality. It is both challenging and comforting to know that we cannot escape God’s presence (Psalms 139:7). He sees us at our best and at our worst, and He refuses to walk away.

Ultimately, Jesus’ promise to be “with you” is the Christian’s answer to every fear, every doubt, every trouble, every heartache, and every discouragement. When the world feels overwhelming, we can rest securely in the truth that the Creator of the universe is walking right beside us.

A Closing Prayer for His Presence

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful and unchanging promise that You are with us always. Forgive us for the moments we allow fear, doubt, or discouragement to blind us to Your near presence. We thank You that You are intimately acquainted with every detail of our lives, watching over us with perfect, loving care.

Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit today. Give us the courage to share Your love and truth with those who are spiritually lost, and the strength to endure whatever trials come our way. Let Your presence fill our hearts with a joy that transcends our circumstances. We rest in the comfort that we are never alone, never abandoned, and always held in Your hands.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Go and Make Disciples: Living Out the True Weight of the Great Commission

When we read Matthew 28:19, we are looking at what history calls Christ’s Great Commission. This is not a casual suggestion or a secondary project for the church. It is His primary command, instruction, and task—given to all His followers across every single generation, with the divine authority to back it up.

In His final moments on earth, Jesus laid out the ultimate goal for His church. Whether we look at our lives individually, as local congregations, or as a worldwide community, our marching orders are clear: take His message to people of all nations and cultures.

Beyond Conversion: The Depth of True Discipleship

Many people hear the Great Commission and immediately think of evangelism—sharing the message of forgiveness and new life so that people will accept Christ. While evangelism is essential, Jesus’ words actually call us into something much deeper: discipleship.

In the original Greek, the word for make disciples is matheteusate, which means to form disciplined “learners.” Interestingly, the word “go” in this passage can be translated as “as you are going.” The only direct command in the verse is to make disciples.

Jesus does not want the church to focus merely on enlarging church membership or collecting superficial conversions. If an individual accepts Christ but never grows past that starting point, they risk abandoning their faith entirely. True discipleship requires solid teaching, continual spiritual nurturing, and a commitment to mentorship. We are called to train others by both teaching and example, producing lifelong followers of Christ who pursue His purposes with all their heart, mind, and will.

The Message We Carry

According to the pattern laid out by the apostles in the New Testament, the preaching of the gospel must center on a few non-negotiable pillars:

  • Repentance and Forgiveness: A acknowledging of sin and turning toward God’s grace.
  • The Gift of the Holy Spirit: Receiving the divine presence to empower our transformation.
  • Holy Distinction: A challenge to live a life uniquely different from a spiritually corrupt world, while eagerly expecting Jesus’ return.

We must remember that our call is to reach the spiritually lost with hope, not to expect that the entire world system will become Christianized. The world will remain defiant toward God until He returns to judge evil. Until then, believers must separate themselves from corrupt cultural lifestyles, devoting themselves wholeheartedly to God and exposing evil to encourage others to avoid it.

Baptism: The Public Pledge of New Life

For those who accept this message by faith, Jesus gives a specific next step: water baptism.

The word “baptized” literally means to be immersed or put completely under water. This act of obedience is a profound public statement. It is a visual identification with Jesus in His death, burial (going under the water), and resurrection (coming up out of the water).

Baptism represents a spiritual pledge. It shows the world that you are dying to your sinful nature and, by God’s grace, being raised up to live a brand-new life completely committed to Christ.

Empowered for the Mission

We cannot fulfill this monumental task in our own strength. Jesus promised that He would be with His obedient followers until the very end of the age. But notice the timing: the disciples were only able to take this message to the nations after they were “clothed with power from on high” through the Holy Spirit.

As you go about your week, remember that you carry the ultimate message of hope, backed by the very authority of Christ and fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit inside you. Let’s move beyond the surface and commit to the deep, life-changing work of making true disciples.

A Closing Prayer for the Mission

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the incredible privilege of being called into Your kingdom. Lord Jesus, You have given us a clear and weighty charge to go and make disciples of all nations. We admit that we cannot do this in our own strength. Fill us afresh with the power of Your Holy Spirit so that we may be bold witnesses of Your truth.

Give us the wisdom and patience to mentor others, moving past superficial numbers to build deeply rooted, lifelong learners of Your Word. Help us to live holy lives, distinctly set apart from the corruption of this world, as we eagerly await Your return. May our lives, our words, and our obedience bring glory to Your name. Wrap us in Your presence as we go out into our communities and the world.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

The Source of Our Sending: Authority, Power, and the Prerequisite of Waiting

When Jesus stood before His disciples on the mountain in Galilee, He began His final instructions not with a strategy, but with a declaration of His status. In Matthew 28:18, He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” This foundational truth changes everything about how we approach the call to reach the world.

Because Jesus holds absolute authority over creation, His subsequent command to “go and make disciples of all nations” carries the full weight of heaven. We do not go out in our own strength, nor do we preach a message built on human philosophy. As followers of Christ, we serve as His official ambassadors and representatives on earth. He has entrusted us with His authority to proclaim the good news, but He never intended for us to carry out this monumental task using only our natural talents or sheer willpower.

There is a divine pattern to the mission, and it requires a blending of absolute obedience and total dependence. Right after receiving the Great Commission, the disciples were not told to run immediately into the streets of Jerusalem or board ships for distant lands. Instead, Jesus gave them a surprising command: they had to wait.

In Luke 24:47-49 and Acts 1:4, Jesus instructed them to stay in the city until they were clothed with power from on high. They had to wait for the Father to fulfill His ancient promise to send the Holy Spirit. We see the magnificent fulfillment of this at Pentecost in Acts 2, where the Holy Spirit descended and empowered the early Church to speak with boldness and conviction.

This reveals a vital spiritual principle that modern believers often overlook. We cannot expect the supernatural power described in Acts 1:8 to accompany our efforts to take Christ’s message to our neighborhoods and nations if we skip the waiting and surrender outlined in Acts 1:4. Trying to do the work of God without the Spirit of God is an exercise in fruitlessness.

Before we can effectively go, we must learn to tarry. We must seek the Lord, align our hearts with His, and rely completely on the Holy Spirit’s empowerment. True gospel impact happens when authorized messengers operate under divine power. When we follow this biblical pattern, our words carry weight, our ministries bear lasting fruit, and the message of the cross goes forth with transforming strength.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we stand in awe of the absolute authority that belongs to Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for calling us to be His representatives and for trusting us to carry the beautiful message of the gospel to a broken world. Lord, forgive us for the times we have tried to do Your work in our own strength. We confess our need for Your Holy Spirit. Fill us anew today with Your divine power. Help us to wait on You in prayer and dependence so that when we move forward, we do so under Your guidance and anointing. May Your name be made great among the nations through our obedience. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Walking Unashamed: Why Followers of Christ Have No Reason to Fear

In a world filled with shifting headlines and constant uncertainty, fear can easily become our default setting. But if you open to the final chapter of Matthew, you will find a message that radically shifts our perspective from terror to triumphs.

On that glorious resurrection morning, the women who went to visit Jesus’ tomb were met with a scene that shook the Roman guards to the core. Yet, amidst the supernatural trembling and the appearance of a heavenly messenger, the angel offers these comforting words: “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified” (Matthew 28:5). Later, in Matthew 28:10, Jesus Himself meets them and echoes this divine command: “Do not be afraid.”

The Loyalty of the Lost and Found

The angel’s response tells us exactly why these women did not need to be afraid: they were looking for Jesus.

Think about the context of that moment. These women had remained loyal friends of Jesus, even though some of His closest followers abandoned Him in His darkest hour of trial. The world at large had despised, mocked, and crucified Him. Yet, love and loyalty drew them to the tomb.

Their focus wasn’t on the power of the Roman Empire or the chaos of the cultural moment. Their hearts were fixed entirely on Christ. Because they were seeking Him, the terrifying environment around them lost its power to destroy their peace.

Standing Confident in a World that Rejects Truth

This truth stretches far beyond the empty tomb; it bridges directly to our lives today and the future promise of Christ’s return.

When Christ returns, His faithful followers will have no reason to fear. Just like those women, modern believers are called to remain loyal to Him in a world that largely rejects His love, sees no need for His salvation, and openly defies the standards of His Word. Standing firm in your faith today might feel lonely, but it is the very thing that secures your peace for tomorrow.

The apostle John beautifully expresses this reality in 1 John 2:28: “And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.”

When our lives are deeply rooted and continuing in Him, fear evaporates. We don’t have to shrink back in shame or worry about the judgment of the world. Because we look for Jesus today, we can look forward to His return with radical confidence.

Whatever is making your heart anxious today, remember the angel’s reminder and Jesus’ command: Do not be afraid. Keep seeking Him, keep staying loyal to His Word, and walk boldly in His resurrection power.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life-giving truth of the empty tomb. In moments when the world feels overwhelming and fear knocks at my door, remind me of Your words: “Do not be afraid.” Give me the courage and loyalty of the women at the resurrection, that I may seek You wholeheartedly even when it is costly.
