(KJV) Luke 1:38

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

As You Have Said: Embracing God’s Will

When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary with a life-altering message, her response was both simple and revolutionary: “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38).

In a single moment, this young woman surrendered her plans, her reputation, and her future to the sovereign purposes of God.

A Legacy of Complete Submission

Mary’s submission was not passive. It was an active, courageous choice to trust God’s character over her circumstances. She knew the costs:

Public scandal: Signs of pregnancy before marriage carried a heavy social stigma.
Severe criticism: She faced immediate rejection from her community.
Personal risk: Her relationship with Joseph and her entire future hung in the balance.

Yet, Mary looked past the immediate trial and focused on the faithfulness of the One who called her. She willingly accepted both the immense honor and the heavy burden of becoming the mother of Jesus.

A Blueprint for Faith Today

Mary’s example speaks powerfully to us today, offering a timeless blueprint for walks of faith:

Trusting God’s character: True surrender is based on knowing that God is good, loving, and faithful.
Valuing purity: Honoring God with our bodies and choices, even when society moves in the opposite direction.
Obeying the Holy Spirit: Remaining open to whatever God asks of us, no matter how uncomfortable or costly it may seem.

When we pray “Your will be done,” we are echoing Mary’s heart. We are choosing to let God write our stories, trusting that His plans are always better than our own.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful example of Mary’s faith and obedience. Like her, we want to be people who say “yes” to You without hesitation. Give us the courage to submit completely to Your will, even when the path ahead looks difficult or uncertain.

When obedience brings criticism or misunderstanding from the world, anchor our hearts in Your truth. Teach our young men and women to walk in sexual purity, deep love for You, and unwavering faith in Your Word. Holy Spirit, have Your way in our lives today. May it be done to us according to Your word.
