THAT YOU MIGHT SHARE IN THE GLORY / 2 THESSALONIANS 2:14

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 2:14

Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

That You Might Share in the Glory: The Marvel of God’s Call

Have you ever stopped to consider what your future holds? Not just your plans for next week, next year, or even retirement, but your ultimate eternal destiny? In the midst of life’s struggles, doubts, and daily weariness, it is easy to lose sight of the grand narrative God is writing.

In 2 Thessalonians 2:14, the Apostle Paul gives us a breathtaking glimpse into that future: “He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

This short verse contains three profound truths that can fundamentally transform how we view our identity and our purpose today.

1. The Reality of the Call

Before we ever looked for God, He was seeking us. Paul reminds us that God “called you.” This isn’t a vague invitation thrown out into the cosmos hoping someone might stumble upon it. It is an intentional, loving summons. God looks at your life—with all of your flaws, mistakes, and hesitations—and says, “I am calling you to Himself.”

2. The Vehicle of the Gospel

How does this call reach us? Paul says it happens “through our gospel.” The gospel is the beautifully simple yet infinitely deep “good news” of Jesus Christ—His perfect life, His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, and His triumphant resurrection. When we hear the truth of what Jesus has done and respond in faith, that universal message becomes our personal rescue story. The gospel is the bridge that connects a holy God to our messy lives.

3. The Ultimate Destination: Sharing His Glory

The final phrase of this verse is almost too vast to comprehend: “that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Think about that. What is the glory of Christ? It is His majesty, His perfect beauty, His absolute holiness, and His victory over sin and death. We are not merely saved so that we can escape judgment or sit quietly in a corner of heaven. We are saved to share in His splendor.

  • Character Transformation: We are being changed day by day into His image, reflecting His love, patience, and truth to the world.
  • Eternal Inheritance: We will step out of the brokenness of this world and enter into a perfect, resurrected life, reigning with Him forever.

If you are feeling forgotten, insignificant, or overwhelmed today, anchor your heart to this truth. You are not an accident. You are chosen, you are called through the good news of Jesus, and your story ends in his breathtaking glory.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the profound mystery and beauty of Your Word. We are humbled by the truth that You have called us out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Thank You for the gospel—the good news of Jesus Christ that reaches into our brokenness and offers us direct reconciliation with You.

Forgive us for the times we live with a short-sighted perspective, forgetting the magnificent inheritance You have secured for us. Open the eyes of our hearts to fully grasp what it means that we are called to share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let that future hope change how we live today. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that our words, choices, and character point others back to You.

We stand firm in Your grace, trusting that the work You began in us will be brought to perfect completion.

In the mighty and glorious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
