BEING CONFIDENT OF THIS / PHILIPPIANS 1:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Being Confident of This: The Unshakable Promise of Philippians 1:6

We live in a world full of unfinished projects. Half-read books sit on our nightstands, home renovation plans remain paused, and promises we made with the best intentions sometimes fall through. It is easy to look at our own spiritual lives the same way—as a series of false starts, lingering flaws, and incomplete growth.

But Philippians 1:6 offers an anchor for our restless souls: “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

This isn’t just wishful thinking; it is an absolute certainty rooted in the character of God.

The Blueprint of Partnership

The Apostle Paul’s confidence in the Philippian church wasn’t blind optimism. It was deeply tied to their lifestyle of active faith. They didn’t just sit on the sidelines; they had a profound passion and sacrifice for the cause of Christ. From the very first day, they partnered with Paul in ministry through their prayers, financial support, and shared suffering.

Because they proved faithful in supporting the Gospel, Paul was certain that God would continue to pour out His grace to work in and through them. Their active loyalty was the evidence of a genuine inner transformation.

God’s Faithfulness vs. Our Resistance

The core of this promise is simple: God is always faithful. He is committed to ensuring that His work is effective in the lives of those who remain dependent on Him. He provides the grace—His unearned favor, love, help, and spiritual enablement—to carry us through every season of life.

However, a vital truth remains: God’s grace is not coercive. His faithfulness cannot bear fruit in a heart that actively resists Him. To experience the completion of His good work, we must surrender to His grace rather than refuse His gift of salvation. When we remain open, humble, and loyal, we can rest in the assurance that our spiritual growth is secure in His hands. He is both the Author and the Finisher of our faith.

A Closing Prayer for Divine Completion

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God who finishes what He starts. We praise You that our spiritual journey does not depend on our limited strength, but on Your limitless grace and unshakeable faithfulness.

Lord, we confess the times we try to construct our own righteousness or resist Your spiritual enablement. Today, we choose to stop resisting. We surrender our flaws, our unfinished spaces, and our anxieties to You. Fill us with a passion for Your Gospel and a desire to partner in Your kingdom work.

We stand fully confident in Your promise. Keep us loyal, dependent, and deeply rooted in Your love, trusting that You are perfecting us day by day until the glorious day of Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
