TO DO GOOD WORKS / EPHESIANS 2:10

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Created for a Purpose: Walking in the Good Works God Prepared for You

Have you ever wondered what your true purpose is? In a world that constantly tells us to achieve, perform, and earn our worth, it is incredibly freeing to discover that God has a beautifully designed blueprint for our lives.

One of the most profound scriptures on this topic is found in Ephesians 2:10:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

This single verse beautifully bridges the gap between who we are in Christ and how we are called to live. Let’s break down what it means to be God’s workmanship and how we can walk out our divine purpose every day.

Saved By Grace, Created For Good Works

To truly understand Ephesians 2:10, we must look at the verses that come right before it. Ephesians 2:8; Ephesians 2:9 reminds us of a fundamental truth: we cannot be spiritually saved and made right with God by our good works. Salvation is an entirely free, unearned gift of grace through faith. There is absolutely nothing we can do to buy our way into heaven or earn God’s love.

However, while we aren’t saved by good works, we are saved for them.

God deeply desires that the lives of Christians be characterized by good works. It is woven into the very fabric of who we are; it is part of what we were created to do. Our deeds do not gain God’s favor, but rather serve as a joyful expression of our love and gratitude for the favor He has already poured out on us (Titus 2:14; 3:8). We don’t serve to get loved; we serve because we are loved.

God Has Already Prepared Your Path

One of the most encouraging details of Ephesians 2:10 is that God has prepared good things for us to do beforehand. You don’t have to stress, strive, or guess your way into a meaningful life. God has already gone ahead of you, strategically placing opportunities, relationships, and tasks in your path.

Your unique “good works” might look like:

  • Encouraging a coworker who is going through a hard time.
  • Serving your family with patience and joy.
  • Using your unique talents to bless your local church or community.
  • Showing radical generosity to someone in need.

Being a Light to the World

When we step into the good works God has laid out for us, something incredible happens: people notice. Our actions provide a powerful opportunity to influence others for Christ.

In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world. When we let our light shine before others through our good works, we aren’t drawing attention to ourselves. Instead, we are acting as a mirror, reflecting His love and goodness. Your simple act of obedience or kindness could be the exact example someone needs to see, leading them to receive Christ’s forgiveness and new life for themselves.

You are God’s masterpiece. Today, look around with expectant eyes—God has already prepared a good work for you to walk in.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the incredible gift of salvation through Your grace. I praise You that my worth is not tied to my performance, and that I am securely held in Your love. Thank You for making me Your workmanship and creating me with a divine purpose.

Lord, open my eyes today to see the good works You have prepared beforehand for me to walk in. Give me a willing heart, a spirit of generosity, and the courage to step out in faith. Let my life be a reflection of Your goodness, so that others may see Your love through me and come to know Your saving grace.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
