START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION
(KJV) Psalms 27:13
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
I Am Still Confident: Trusting God’s Goodness in the Wait
Life has a way of testing the boundaries of our endurance. We encounter seasons that feel heavy, dark, and entirely uncertain. In those moments, when the world around us feels shaky, where do we anchor our hearts? The Psalmist gives us a profound declaration of anchor-like faith in Psalms 27:13: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
This is not a passive wish; it is a fierce, defiant declaration of faith. To look at a difficult situation and say, “I am still confident,” requires a deliberate choice to shift the focus of our spiritual eyes away from our circumstances and fix them entirely on God. Trusting Him and experiencing His goodness personally are absolutely necessary for building our faith and keeping us strong. Without this deep-rooted confidence in His character, we can easily succumb to despair.
As followers of Christ, maintaining this perspective means we must cultivate strong faith and continued hope. When we walk through dark and difficult times, the natural human response is to rush for an exit or demand immediate answers. Yet, Scripture repeatedly calls us to a different posture: patiently waiting for the Lord. We see this call echoed throughout the Bible, from the immediate next verse in Psalms 27:14 to the weary cries in Psalms 42 – 43, and the enduring promises in Isaiah 40:27-31; Micah 7:8. Waiting is rarely easy, but it is never wasted.
Waiting on God is not an invitation to passive inactivity. Instead, it is an active engagement of our faith. As we wait, we have the opportunity to draw closer to Him. We do this by immersing ourselves in prayer, anchoring our minds in His Word, and holding fast to our commitment through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a daily reliance on the grace spoken of in Ephesians 6:10; 2 Timothy 2:1, remembering the endurance modeled for us in James 5:11.
If you find yourself in a season of waiting today, take heart. In His own time, God will show His goodness to you. He is not indifferent to your struggle, nor is He late. Keep your eyes on Him, remain steadfast, and let your soul say with absolute certainty: I am still confident.
A Closing Prayer for Confidence and Strength
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today acknowledging that some seasons are harder than others. When darkness creeps in and our strength begins to fail, we ask that You realign our spiritual eyes. Help us to look past our immediate trials and fix our gaze entirely on Your unchanging character.
Lord, we declare today that we are still confident. We trust that we will see Your goodness manifested in our lives. Grant us the patience to wait for You when the answers seem delayed. Teach us to use this time of waiting to draw nearer to You through Your Word and deep connection in prayer.
We pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to strengthen us, to make us steadfast, and to preserve our hope. When we are weak, be our strong tower. We commit our ways to You, trusting completely in Your perfect timing.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
