SIN OFFERING / LEVITICUS 4:3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 4:3

ย If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the Lord for a sin offering.

The Weight of Holiness: Understanding the Sin Offering and Grace Today

In the book of Leviticus, God lays out a detailed roadmap for how a flawed humanity can relate to a perfectly holy God. Among these sacred instructions, Leviticus 4:3 introduces a sobering reality: even those in highest spiritual authority are susceptible to falling short. The verse states:

“If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then he must bring to the Lord a young bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed.”

This passage underscores a profound truth about the nature of sin, accountability, and the lengths to which God went to provide a pathway back to Him.

Unintentional Sins and the Need for Covering

God required sin offerings specifically so that those who sinned unintentionally, or without realizing they had broken the law, could receive forgiveness (Leviticus 4:2). In the Old Testament, the stakes were incredibly high. While unintentional wrongs required a sacrifice, deliberate, defiant sins born of direct rebellion were punishable by death (Numbers 15:30-31).

The sacrificial system separated these into distinct categories:

  • The Sin Offering: For unintentional failings and spiritual cleansing.
  • The Guilt Offering: Used when a person committed a sin or injury for which they could provide full compensation or restitution (Leviticus 6:2-6).
  • Ceremonial Cleansing: Required for purification after specific life events or illnesses (Leviticus 12:6-8).

When the high priest sinned, his actions brought guilt upon the entire community. Because of his position, the required sacrifice was the most costlyโ€”a young bull without defect. This reminds us that leadership carries a heavier weight of responsibility, but no one is immune to human weakness.

From Shadows to Reality: Christ Our Perfect Sacrifice

The ancient rituals of Leviticus were never meant to be the final answer. Instead, the sin offering served as a powerful prophetic symbol pointing directly toward Jesus Christโ€™s atoning death. Atonement means “sin-covering” and “forgiveness-providing.” Through His sacrifice on the cross, Jesus took the punishment for our sins upon Himself.

Unlike the Old Testament sacrifices that had to be offered repeatedly, Christโ€™s death provided a perfect, once-and-for-all covering for sin (2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7). As the book of Hebrews explains, He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:11-12).

Walking in True Grace Today

As New Testament followers of Christ, we still need the ongoing, continuing cleansing that Christโ€™s blood provides. We live in a broken world and navigate a weak human nature, often falling into mistakes, blind spots, and unintentional failings (Psalms 19:12).

However, we must never confuse God’s grace with permission to rebel. Sins resulting from direct, willful rebellion against God and His Word lead to severe judgment and spiritual death (Hebrews 10:26). True faith is marked by a tender heart. When we recognize our wrongs, we are called to confess them, turn away from them, and actively depend on Christ’s atonement to provide the daily forgiveness we need.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus today, grateful that we no longer carry the burden of the altar, because the Lamb of God has already paid it all.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You recognizing Your absolute holiness and majesty. Forgive us for the times we have fallen shortโ€”both the mistakes we are painfully aware of and the unintentional wrongs born from our human weakness. We thank You that we do not live under the heavy burden of the ancient sacrificial laws, but under the banner of Your overwhelming grace.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being our perfect, once-and-for-all sin offering. Thank You for shedding Your precious blood to purchase our eternal redemption and provide a continuous covering for our souls. Cleanse our hearts today. Search us, O God, and know our thoughts; see if there is any offensive way in us, and lead us in the way everlasting.

Help us to live lives that honor Your sacrifice. Keep us from willful rebellion, and give us a spirit that is quick to repent, quick to turn back to You, and deeply rooted in Your truth. May our lives reflect the freedom and holiness found only in Christ.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.

ANY FAT OR ANY BLOOD / LEVITICUS 3:17

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 3:17

It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

The Sacred Threshold: Honoring God with the Best of Life

Have you ever paused over the highly specific, detailed laws in the Old Testament and wondered, What does this have to do with my life today?

In Leviticus 3:17, we encounter a decree that sounds entirely foreign to modern ears: โ€œIt shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.โ€

At first glance, it reads like an ancient dietary restriction. But when we look closer at the context of the peace offering, a profound spiritual truth emerges. Fat and blood were strictly reserved because they represent the very vitality and essence of life.

The Meaning Behind the Command

To understand why God claimed these specific portions, we have to look at what they symbolized to the ancient Israelites:

  • The Fat Belongs to the Lord: In biblical times, the fat was considered the richest, best, and most choice part of the animal. Offering the fat on the altar (Leviticus 3:16) was a symbolic way of giving God the absolute best of what they had. It represents our surplus, our strength, and our highest praise.
  • The Blood is the Life: As Leviticus 17:11 later clarifies, the life of the flesh is in the blood. Because the animal stood as a substitute for the worshiper, pouring out the blood represented giving the creature’s entire life over to God.

By demanding that His people abstain from eating the fat and the blood, God was establishing a boundary. He was reminding them that human life, and the sustenance that gives it strength, belongs ultimately to Him. We are stewards, not owners, of the breath in our lungs and the energy in our bodies.

Living “Fat and Blood” Today

We no longer bring animal sacrifices to a physical altar because Jesus Christ offered Himself as the ultimate substitute, pouring out His own blood to buy our redemption. However, the spiritual principle of Leviticus 3:17 remains a beautiful blueprint for our daily walk:

  1. Give God Your First and Best: Don’t give God your leftoversโ€”the last five minutes of your day, or the money left over after everything else is spent. Give Him your “fat”โ€”your primary energy, your focused time, and your best gifts.
  2. Recognize the Sacredness of Life: Because our life belongs to God, how we treat our bodies, our time, and our neighbors matters. Your vitality is a loan from the Creator, meant to be used for His glory.

When we surrender our best to God, we find that what He gives back to us is far more fulfilling than anything we could have held onto for ourselves.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We acknowledge today that our lives are not our own; we have been bought with a precious price. Forgive us for the times we have given You our leftovers instead of our best. Today, we choose to lay the “fat” of our livesโ€”our energy, our talents, our time, and our resourcesโ€”upon Your altar as a sweet aroma.

Thank You for the blood of Christ that purifies us and gives us eternal vital life. Help us to live this week with a deep reverence for the life You have entrusted to us, using every ounce of our strength to honor Your holy name.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

FELLOWSHIP OFFERING / LEVITICUS 3:1

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 3:1

And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord.

The Gift of Nearness: Understanding the Fellowship Offering

Leviticus 3:1 introduces us to a beautiful, deeply personal ritual: the Fellowship Offering (sometimes called the Peace Offering). While old covenant regulations can sometimes feel distant or purely historic, this specific offering holds a profound truth about the very heart of God.

God did not establish the sacrificial system solely to deal with sin and guilt; He also designed a way for His people to simply enjoy His presence.

What Was the Fellowship Offering?

Unlike other offerings that focused strictly on atonement or cleansing, the fellowship offering was brought to God intentionally to cultivate intimacy and enjoy personal interaction with Him. It was a sacred meal shared, in a sense, between God, the priest, and the worshiper.

Scripture highlights a few primary reasons someone would bring this offering:

  • To Express Thankfulness: A spontaneous overflow of gratitude for God’s concrete blessings in daily life (Leviticus 7:12-16; 22:29).
  • To Fulfill a Vow: A meaningful expression of devotion and answered prayer (Leviticus 7:16).
  • To Celebrate Peace: A joyful declaration of renewed unity and harmony between God and the worshiper.

Bringing this offering required a complete commitment to Godโ€™s covenantโ€”His “life agreement” built on divine law, promises, and the worshiper’s faithful obedience to His standards.

The Ultimate Fellowship: From Shadow to Reality

The rituals of Leviticus were a shadow of a much greater reality to come. This ancient ceremony directly anticipated the personal relationship that followers of Jesus now enjoy with God.

Through the cross, Christ became our final, perfect Fellowship Offering. Consider how the New Testament connects these dots:

  1. Peace Restored: Colossians 1:20 reminds us that Christ made peace through the blood of His cross, reconciling all things to Himself.
  2. True Community: Because we have peace with God, we can experience true unity with each other. As 1 John 1:3 states, “Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.”
  3. The Eternal Banquet: This offering also points forward to the ultimate family meal. It anticipates the day when all of Godโ€™s people will sit down for unbroken fellowship in His kingdomโ€”a reality beautifully described in the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6-10).

You don’t have to earn your way into God’s presence today. Because of Jesus, the door is wide open for you to pull up a chair, sit with your Creator, and simply enjoy being loved by Him.

A Closing Prayer for Fellowship

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God who doesn’t just rule from a distance, but invites us into close, personal fellowship. Thank You for Jesus, our ultimate Peace Offering, who tore down the walls of separation and made a way for us to know You intimately.

Forgive us for the times we treat our relationship with You like a duty rather than a delight. Help us to slow down today just to enjoy Your presence. Fill our hearts with a deep sense of gratitude, and let Your peace rule in our hearts and in our relationships with others. We look forward with joy to the day we will sit at Your eternal table.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

NOT ANY YEAST OR HONEY / LEVITICUS 2:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 2:11

ย No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the Lord, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the Lord made by fire.

The Forbidden Sweetness: Why God Said “No” to Yeast and Honey

When we read through the Old Testament sacrificial laws, some instructions can feel like ancient dietary quirks. In Leviticus 2:11, God gives a specific command regarding grain offerings:

“No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the Lord made by fire.”

At first glance, yeast (leaven) and honey sound like great additions. Yeast makes bread fluffy and comforting; honey makes it sweet and desirable. Yet, God strictly bans them from the altar. Why?

The answer lies in what these two ingredients do: they drive the fermentation process.

The Symbolism of Fermentation

Fermentation is fundamentally a process of change, breaking down, and decay. When yeast or honey are introduced into a dough, they don’t just sit thereโ€”they manipulate it. They inflate it, alter its chemical structure, and ultimately accelerate its decomposition.

Throughout Scripture, this process is frequently used as a vivid symbol for sin, pride, and moral corruption.

  • Leaven expands and puffs up: Just as a tiny pinch of yeast spreads through an entire lump of dough, sin and compromise quickly take over a human heart. Jesus warned His disciples to “watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees” (Mark 8:15), referring to their hypocrisy and pride.
  • Honey masks reality with artificial sweetness: While honey is naturally sweet, in the context of fermentation, it acts as an agent of decay. It represents the temporary, deceptive sweetness of worldly pleasuresโ€”things that taste good for a moment but ultimately lead to internal rot.

Pure Offerings, Unchanging Devotion

By forbidding yeast and honey, God was teaching His people a profound truth about worship: He desires purity, transparency, and consistency.

The offerings brought to the altar were meant to be preserved, not corrupted. Salt, which preserves and prevents decay, was required in the very same chapter (Leviticus 2:13). God didn’t want an offering that was “puffed up” by yeast to look bigger than it actually was. He didn’t want an offering masked by the fleeting sweetness of honey. He wanted it pure.

When we present our lives as living sacrifices to God today, the call remains the same. God doesn’t look for an impressive, puffed-up presentation built on pride. He doesn’t want us to cover our rough edges with a fake, sugary exterior. He desires a heart that is raw, honest, holy, and completely untouched by the decaying influences of the world.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the timeless wisdom of Your Word. Even in the ancient laws of the altar, You show us the beauty of a pure and holy life. Lord, we ask that You search our hearts today. Purge us of any “leaven”โ€”any hidden pride, hypocrisy, or compromise that seeks to puff us up or corrupt our walk with You. Deliver us from the deceptive sweetness of worldly temptations that lead to spiritual decay.

Instead, fill us with Your truth. Help us to offer our lives daily as pure, unchanging sacrifices that are pleasing in Your sight. Guard our hearts, preserve our testimonies, and let our worship be authentic and holy.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

GRAIN OFFERING / LEVITICU 2:1-2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Leviticus 2:1-2

And when any will offer a meat offering unto the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon: 2 And he shall bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord:

Worship Through the Daily Grind: Finding Purpose in the Grain Offering

When we open the book of Leviticus, it is easy to get lost in the ancient blueprints of altars, rituals, and sacrifices. We often view these chapters as historical artifacts rather than living words meant to shape our daily lives. However, if we slow down and look closer at Leviticus 2:1-2, we find a deeply practical truth about how God views our everyday labor.

The passage reads:

โ€œWhen anyone brings a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.โ€

Unlike other sacrifices that required animal blood, the grain offering was an offering born from human sweat, cultivation, and soil. It was a beautiful gift presented to God as an intentional act of worship, full of meaning for the ancient Israeliteโ€”and carrying powerful timeless truths for us today.

1. Your Work is a Sacred Gift

The grain offering symbolized that a person’s work was entirely dedicated to God. Grain didn’t just fall from the sky; it required planting, watering, harvesting, threshing, and grinding into fine flour. It represented the hours spent under the hot sun, the muscle ache of hard labor, and the skills of human hands.

By bringing the fruit of their labor to the altar, the worshiper was saying, “Lord, my ability to work, create, and earn comes entirely from You. I dedicate the daily grind back to You.”

This implies that all human work should be seen as an opportunity to honor the Lord. Your jobโ€”whether you sit at a corporate desk, care for children at home, build houses, or study for examsโ€”is not separate from your spiritual life. Work is a primary avenue where we actively worship God. As the Apostle Paul famously echoes in the New Testament:

  • “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
  • “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…” (Colossians 3:23)

2. An Expression of Daily Thanksgiving

The grain offering also served as a profound expression of thankfulness to God for one’s daily food. When a portion of that fine flour was burned on the altar, it went up as a “pleasing aroma to the Lord.” It was a tactile reminder that even though human hands baked the bread, it was God who ultimately provided the rain, the soil, and the breath of life necessary to sustain them.

When we transition our mindset from viewing work as a mere chore to viewing it as a vehicle for gratitude, everything changes. We stop rushing through the week just to get to the weekend. Instead, we begin to pause and thank God for the employment, the capability, and the daily bread He faithfully puts on our tables.

Bringing Your “Grain” to the Lord Today

You don’t need a handful of fine flour or frankincense to please God tomorrow morning. Christ has fulfilled the sacrificial system on our behalf, becoming the ultimate, pure offering pleasing to the Father.

Instead, you bring your grain offering by logging into your computer with integrity, treating a difficult customer with kindness, completing a project with excellence, and holding a heart of deep gratitude through it all. Let your work today be a sweet-smelling aroma to the Lord.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of this day and the strength to live it. We recognize that every ability we have to think, create, build, and labor comes directly from Your hand. Forgive us for the times we have looked at our daily responsibilities as a burden rather than a platform to praise You.

We lift up the work of our hands to You today. May our diligence, our attitude, and our interactions with others be a living grain offeringโ€”holy, pure, and dedicated to Your honor. We thank You deeply for Your faithful provision of our daily food, shelter, and grace. Let our lives be a pleasing aroma to You in everything we do.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

JESUS HAD KNOWN FROM THE BEGINNING / JOHN 6:64

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:64

But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

Known from the Beginning: Choice, Grace, and the Warning of Judas

In John 6:64, we encounter a sobering reminder of Christ’s perfect divinity and the mystery of human free will: โ€œFor Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.โ€

This phraseโ€””from the beginning”โ€”holds a profound weight. Does it mean Jesus knew the trajectory of Judasโ€™ character from the dawn of creation, or from the moment He called him to be a disciple? Either way, the truth remains unchanged: Jesus knew exactly who Judas was, yet He chose him anyway. He extended the same grace, the same power, and the same intimate fellowship to Judas as He did to the other eleven.

Judas was not a puppet trapped in a tragic script; he was a man who made a choice.

The Tragic Drift of a Trusted Friend

It is easy to look at Judas as a monster born for betrayal, but Scripture paints a much more complex picture. He is described as a close, trusted friend (Psalms 41:9; John 13:18). In the early days, Judas likely believed. He left his old life behind, walked the dusty roads of Galilee, and even cast out demons and healed the sick using the power Jesus freely gave to all the disciples (Matthew 10:1-15).

But somewhere along the line, a drift occurred. Perhaps Jesus didn’t fit the political or triumphant mold Judas expected. Disappointment curdled into greed, and greed opened a door to the enemy.

Judasโ€™ downfall reminds us of three vital truths:

  • The traitor was not predestined. While prophecy foretold that Jesus would be betrayed, Judas himself was not forced into this role. He chose it freely (Acts 1:25).
  • Privilege does not guarantee perseverance. Walking in proximity to the miraculous, hearing the words of Christ firsthand, and being trusted with leadership do not automatically secure a person’s heart.
  • The world offers a competing devotion. Judas allowed a friendship with the worldโ€”represented by thirty pieces of silver and personal ambitionโ€”to choke out his devotion to the Savior (James 4:4).

A Searing Warning for Modern Followers

Judas stands as a mirror and a warning for every believer today. We cannot ride the coattails of past spiritual experiences or rely on religious busywork to keep us faithful. The drift from devotion to betrayal rarely happens overnight; it begins with subtle compromises, hidden disappointments, and letting the cares of this world crowd out the lordship of Christ (Hebrews 10:29).

Jesus knows our hearts “from the beginning.” He sees the secret pull toward compromise within us, yet He still invites us to His table. The question is, will we yield to Him, or will we walk away?

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with humbled and sober hearts. We thank You that nothing in our lives catches You by surprise; You have known us from the very beginning. Lord, we ask that You search our hearts today. Reveal any hidden areas of disappointment, bitterness, or compromise where we have allowed the love of this world to crowd out our devotion to You.

Forgive us for the times we have drifted. Protect us from the deception of a casual faith, and anchor our souls firmly in Your truth. We pray for the grace to choose You daily, to guard our hearts against the enemy’s whispers, and to remain fiercely devoted to Your lordship until the end.

In Jesus’ holy name, we pray, Amen.

EATS MY FLESH AND DRINKS MY BLOOD / JOHN 6:54

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:54

Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Feeding on the Bread of Life: Understanding John 6:54

In one of the most profound and challenging discourses in the Gospels, Jesus utters words that shocked His listeners: โ€œWhoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last dayโ€ (John 6:54).

To the crowds gathered around Him, this sounded impossible, even offensive. But Jesus was speaking a deep spiritual truth. He wasnโ€™t talking about a physical ritual, but a spiritual reality.

How do we practically “eat His flesh and drink His blood” today?

1. Actively Believing in His Sacrifice

We receive true spiritual life by actively believing in Christ and sharing in the life-restoring benefits of His death on the cross for our sins (Romans 3:24-25; 1 John 1:7). To “eat and drink” means to take into ourselves the reality of what Jesus did. Just as physical food must be consumed to give us strength, Christโ€™s sacrifice must be personally received by faith to give us eternal life.

2. Abiding in the Living and Written Word

Jesus is the living Word (John 1:1-5), and the Bible is the written Word (2 Timothy 3:16). Jesus calls Himself the โ€œbread of lifeโ€ (John 6:35), and He directly connects this bread to scripture: โ€œMan does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of Godโ€ (Matthew 4:4).

We continue to experience His life as we remain in a close personal relationship with Christ and His Word. If we compare John 6:53 with John 6:63, Jesus clarifies His metaphor: โ€œThe words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.โ€ We are fed spiritually and share Christโ€™s life as we:

  • Trust Him completely day by day.
  • Spend consistent time in prayer.
  • Build our lives on, and obey, Godโ€™s Word.

3. Sustaining Our Salvation Daily

We are saved by Godโ€™s grace and the Spiritโ€™s life-transforming power when we first hear, receive, and respond to the gospel (John 1:12; Acts 2:41). However, the Christian walk doesn’t stop there. We continue to experience the benefits of salvation by remaining in a devoted relationship with Christ. We must read, obey, and absorb scriptural truths into our hearts (1 Timothy 4:13-16; James 1:21). Because our spiritual vitality depends entirely on Him, it is spiritually fatal to pull away from Christ or neglect His Word.

A Note on Communion

It is important to note that this passage is not a direct reference to the Lordโ€™s Supper or the sacrament of communion. Jesus was not teaching that a religious ceremony is required for eternal life. Throughout this very chapter, He repeatedly emphasizes that faith is the key element to receiving Him (John 6:35, 40, 47, 51). Communion is a beautiful remembrance of His sacrifice, but the “eating and drinking” Jesus speaks of here is the daily, spiritual consumption of Christ through faith.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

*Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be the true Bread of Life. We praise You for the life-restoring benefits of His death on the cross, which cleanses us from all sin and grants us eternal life. *

Forgive us for the times we try to satisfy our spiritual hunger with things of this world. Today, we choose to feed on You. Holy Spirit, give us a hunger for the Bible. Help us not just to read Your words, but to absorb them, obey them, and build our lives upon them. Keep us desperately close to You, sustaining our faith through prayer and devotion. May we abide in Jesus daily, drawing our strength, our joy, and our life from Him alone.

In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, Amen.

THE FATHER โ€ฆ DRAWS HIM / JOHN 6:44

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:44

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

The Father Draws Us: Understanding Godโ€™s Divine Invitation

Have you ever felt a sudden, gentle tug on your heart to look toward heaven? A quiet whisper in the middle of a chaotic day reminding you of your need for something greater? That inward pulling isnโ€™t just a random emotional wave or a fleeting thoughtโ€”it is the living God actively pursuing your soul.

In John 6:44, Jesus makes a profound statement that transforms how we view our journey to faith:

โ€œNo one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.โ€

This beautiful truth reveals that our relationship with God always begins with His initiative. We do not search for God in our own strength; rather, the Father draws people to Jesus through the Holy Spirit, who opens our minds to see Godโ€™s truth clearly.

How the Father Draws Us

God does not leave us to wander blindly in the dark. He dispatches the Holy Spirit to do a vital work within our hearts. According to John 16:8-11, the Holy Spirit acts as a divine compass, convincing our consciences of the reality of sin in our lives and highlighting our desperate need for a Savior.

This invitation is not exclusive or hidden away for a select few. Godโ€™s loving call echoes across the entire world. As Jesus declared in John 12:32:

โ€œAnd I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.โ€

The cross of Christ stands as a universal beacon, beckoning every soul to come home.

The Freedom to Choose (and the Danger of Delay)

While Godโ€™s grace is boundless, He does not force Himself upon us. His invitation is powerful, but it is not coercive. We possess the solemn freedom to accept or reject His call. Jesus wept over this reality in Matthew 23:37, crying out to a resistant people: โ€œ…How often I wanted to gather your children together… but you were not willing!โ€

This highlights just how critical it is to respond when we feel the Spirit moving. If you ever sense God drawing you closer, it is a dangerous thing to resist or delay.

We cannot simply choose to come to God whenever and however we please, entirely on our own terms. We are entirely dependent on His timing and His promptings. As Jesus later notes in John 6:65, no one can come to Him unless it has been granted by the Father. We can only respond to God by His graceโ€”His undeserved favor and God-given ability working within us.

When the window of grace opens and the Spirit stirs your heart, that is the moment to answer.

Responding to the Tug

If you feel that pull todayโ€”whether it’s a desire to pray, a hunger to read Scripture, or a conviction to repent and turn away from things that hurt your relationship with Godโ€”do not ignore it. Yield to it. It is the Father, in His infinite mercy, drawing you closer to the healing, hope, and eternal life found only in Jesus Christ.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God who pursues us. Thank You that before I ever thought to look for You, You were already drawing me to Your Son, Jesus. Lord, I acknowledge that I cannot come to You in my own strength or merit. I completely rely on Your grace and the God-given ability You look upon me with.

Forgive me for the times I have resisted Your voice or let the distractions of this world drown out Your whisper. I pray that You would open my mind to Your truth even more. Convict my heart where there is sin, and reveal my deep, daily need for Your saving grace.

Soften my heart today, Father. Give me a spirit of immediate obedience so that whenever the Holy Spirit tugs at my soul, I will yield willingly and run into Your arms. Thank You for Your undeserved favor and Your everlasting love.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

MY FATHERโ€™S WILL / JOHN 6:40

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:40

And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

My Fatherโ€™s Will: The Promise of John 6:40 and Our Responsibility

What does it mean to live out the will of God? We often treat Godโ€™s will like a hidden map or a strict script, but Scripture reveals it as something much more profound: the expression of His character, His desires, and His ultimate purposes for humanity.

In John 6:40, Jesus narrows the lens and gives us a remarkably clear definition of His Father’s heart:

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

This beautiful verse anchors our eternal security, but it also highlights a vital dynamic in the Christian walk: the relationship between God’s perfect will and human responsibility.

Perfect Will vs. Permissive Will

God’s heart is entirely for restoration. Scripture shows us that it is not Godโ€™s will that any believer should turn from a commitment to Him and fall โ€œaway from graceโ€ (Galatians 5:4). For that matter, He does not desire that any individual should perish (2 Peter 3:9) or fail to accept the truth that saves us from spiritual death (1 Timothy 2:4).

Yet, we look around the world and see that not everyone accepts this truth. Why? Because there is a profound difference between God’s perfect will (what He desires) and His permissive will (what He allows because of human choice).

God honors the freedom He gave us. He does not override or deny our human responsibility to repent and trust Christ, even when it means people choose to reject Himโ€”a reality that caused Jesus Himself to weep over humanity’s choices (Luke 19:41).

Believing and Behaving: Our Responsibility Today

The promise of John 6:40 is breathtaking: if we look to the Son and believe, we will have eternal life, and He will raise us up on the last day. Death cannot destroy the life that Christ gives.

However, this glorious future promise does not release us from the responsibility of obeying His Word and following Him right now. Belief is not a stagnant, one-time mental assent; it is a living, breathing allegiance. As Jesus reminds us elsewhere, His sheep hear His voice, and they follow Him (John 10:27). Loving Him means keeping His commandments (John 14:21).

Godโ€™s ultimate will is to bring our bodies to life at the resurrection so we can live forever with Christ. But until that “last day” arrives, His will is for us to walk in daily obedience, actively choosing His perfect path over our own permissive detours.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for revealing Your heart so clearly through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your ultimate will for my life is not destruction, but eternal rescue and resurrection. I praise You for the secure promise that death has no final victory over the life You have given me.

Lord, help me to hold my human responsibility with reverence. Forgive me for the moments I choose my own way over Your perfect will. Give me the strength, grace, and discipline to not only look to Jesus for salvation, but to follow Him daily in active obedience. May my life reflect Your character, and may my choices align with Your holy purposes. Keep my feet steady in Your grace until the day You raise me up to be with You forever.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I WILL NEVER DRIVE AWAY / JOHN 6:37

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 6:37

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

I Will Never Drive Away: Finding Your Safe Harbor in Christ

Have you ever worried that your past mistakes, lingering doubts, or deepest failures might keep you from being accepted by God? In a world where rejection is common and acceptance often feels conditional, Jesus offers a reality-shaking promise.

In John 6:37, Jesus declares:

โ€œAll those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.โ€

This single sentence contains one of the most comforting, rock-solid assurances in all of Scripture. It reveals the true posture of Christ’s heart toward you: His arms are wide open.

Come as You Are, Not as You Should Be

No matter who you are, where you have been, or what you have experienced in life, Christ will accept you if you come to Him in humility.

Too often, we fall into the trap of thinking we need to “get our lives together” before we can approach a holy God. We try to clean ourselves up first. But as the old saying goes, you donโ€™t take a bath before you get in the tub. Jesus is the one who cleanses us.

Jesus promises to welcome all who come to Him in true repentance and faith. This means trusting Him enough to admit and turn from your own sinful way, and then fully entrusting the leadership of your life to Him. He doesn’t look at your track record; He looks at your willingness to let Him change your heart.

Sustained by Grace, Secured by Love

If you are feeling the pull to move closer to God today, know this: you are not acting in your own power. Those who come to Jesus do so in response to the divine grace God has already given to them. As Jesus notes just a few verses later in John 6:44, โ€œNo one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.โ€ Your desire to seek Him is proof that He is already seeking you.

Once you take that step into His embrace, your security is absolute:

  • He will never cast you out: His love does not have an expiration date or a boundary line.
  • You are safe in His hands: As the Good Shepherd, Jesus ensures that nothing and no one can snatch you away from Him.
  • Your past is redeemed: When everyone else rejects or labels you, Jesus receives and transforms you.

Stop running from God because of your brokenness. Instead, run to Him. He is waiting, and He will never drive you away.

A Closing Prayer

Loving Father,

Thank You for the beautiful, unconditional promise of Your Word. Thank You that I never have to earn my way into Your presence or fear being turned away because of my flaws. I come to You today in humility, turning away from my own self-reliance and placing my life completely in Your hands.

When doubts creep in and I feel unworthy, remind my heart that Your arms are always open and Your grace is entirely sufficient. Hold me close, strengthen my faith, and anchor my soul in the secure assurance that I belong to You forever.

In Jesus’ mighty and powerful name, Amen.
