THAT DAY WILL NOT COME UNTIL / 2 THESSALONIANS 2:3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 2:3

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

That Day Will Not Come Until…

We live in a world that often feels like it is spinning out of control. Chaos, shifting moral standards, and spiritual apathy can cause us to wonder: How much longer?

In 2 Thessalonians 2:3, the Apostle Paul provides a sobering yet clarifying blueprint for the end times, reminding believers that “that day will not come until” specific prophetic events take place. Paul outlines a distinct sequence of events that signals the beginning of “the day of the Lord” and the ultimate unmasking—and destruction—of evil.

The Divine Timeline of the End Times

Paul breaks down history into a clear progression, showing that God is entirely in control, even when the world seems lawless:

  • The Secret Power at Work: Throughout the church age, a “secret power of lawlessness” is already operating in the background. Evil is present, but it is being actively held back.
  • The Great Rebellion (Apostasy): As history draws to a close, spiritual rebellion and the abandonment of faith within the church will reach massive proportions. Truth will be traded for comfortable lies.
  • The Restrainer Removed: The divine restraint holding back absolute wickedness will be lifted. This removal of godly restraint likely coincides with faithful believers being taken from the world.
  • The Man of Lawlessness Revealed: With restraint gone, the Antichrist will rise to power, performing counterfeit signs and wonders to deceive those who reject the truth.
  • The Ultimate Delusion: Because people refuse to love the truth, God allows a powerful delusion to take over, causing those who delight in wickedness to believe the ultimate lie.
  • The Final Destruction: The story does not end in darkness. At His glorious return, Jesus Christ will destroy the man of lawlessness with the breath of His mouth, executing final justice.

Anchored in Truth

For believers, this sequence is not meant to cause fear, but to build readiness. When we see ungodliness increase, it is a reminder that God’s timeline is unfolding exactly as He said it would. Our calling is to stand firm, love the truth, and refuse to be shaken by the deceptions of our age.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly God, Almighty Father,

We thank You that You hold time, history, and eternity in Your hands. When we look around and see lawlessness and spiritual rebellion increasing, anchor our hearts in Your unchanging truth. Protect us from deception and give us the discernment to recognize the schemes of the enemy.

Holy Spirit, grant us the strength to stand firm in faith, to hold fast to Your Word, and to be a pure, uncompromised light in a darkening world. We rest in the promise that Jesus has already won the ultimate victory and that no power of darkness can stand against Him. We look forward with hope to the day of His glorious return.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
