(KJV) Genesis 8:1
And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;
The Power of Two Words: But God
There are seasons in life where the silence of heaven feels heavy. You pray, you obey, you take the steps you believe you were guided to take, and then… nothing. Weeks turn into months, and the circumstances surrounding you don’t seem to change. If you find yourself in a long season of waiting, wondering if your prayers have vanished into thin air, you are not alone. Thousands of years ago, a man named Noah sat in a floating ark, enduring the exact same silence.
In Genesis 7:24, we learn that the floodwaters raged across the earth for 150 days. For five long months, Noah did not hear a single word from God. He had no weather forecast, no timeline, and no blueprint for when the deep waters would finally recede. He was trapped in a floating wooden box with his family and thousands of animals, tossed around by the waves of a ruined world.
This period was a massive test of his faith. Imagine the human thoughts that must have crept into the ark during those 150 days of silence: Has God left us here? Does He know how long we’ve been floating? Is this how it ends?
Then, right at the turning point of the story, Genesis 8:1 delivers some of the most beautiful words in all of Scripture: “But God remembered Noah…”
When the Bible says that God “remembered” Noah, it does not mean that the Almighty suddenly experienced a lapse in memory and went, “Oh right, I forgot about that family on the ark.” In the Hebrew language, divine remembrance signifies that God is acting according to His covenant promises. It means He is stepping in to manifest His faithfulness to His people. God had never looked away from Noah for a fraction of a second. The silence was not absence; it was a period of preservation.
Noah’s history is recorded to inspire hope and trust in your life today. If it feels like God has been silent for a long time, do not assume He has forgotten you. You can rest completely confident that He loves you and is actively working behind the scenes.
While you wait for the waters to dry up and the doors to open, your calling remains the same as Noah’s: stay close to God and continue to obey His Word. Trust that His Holy Spirit will provide clear direction at the perfect time. As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, when we trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding, He will submit and make our paths straight. Commit your work to Him, and your plans will be established (Proverbs 16:3). He is the one producing in you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13).
Heaven hasn’t forgotten you. Your season of breakthrough is coming.
A Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God who remembers His covenant and His children. Forgive me for the moments I allow fear and impatience to convince me that You have forgotten my situation. I confess that the seasons of waiting and silence can be heavy, but I choose to anchor my soul in Your unchanging faithfulness today.
Lord, give me the endurance of Noah to remain steady and obedient even when I cannot see the horizon. Send the wind of Your Holy Spirit to clear away the floods of worry, doubt, and affliction in my life. I commit my future, my worries, and my path into Your hands, knowing that You are working all things together for my good. Guide my steps, establish my plans, and strengthen my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
